Yesterday when I was driving home I noticed someone was pulled over by an unmarked police vehicle. This made me think of three questions:
-
What should I do if I’m pulled over by an unmarked vehicle
-
How can I be sure the police officer in such a scenario is real?
-
What should I do if they’re fake?

Pull over in a lighted safe areaa
If they are in full uniform, you should be good. if you are still uncomfortable, call 911 and have them verify an officer is on a traffic stop w/ you at your location
if dispatch cant raise the officer, ask for one to be sent out to location
Always assume it’s a fake and floor it.

Be weary of calling 911, you can be charged with misuse.
A marked car can be faked too.
Idk what this fascination of “fake cops pulling me over” is lately.
This is not common.
If you need to verify, call the city non emergency number.
Pull over.
You will know as soon as they step out and talk to you, but calling 911 can verify.
Call 911.
No instead make fast irrational movements when they walk up to the windows
The police officer that has been involved in thousands of car stops and has been trained in the matter and knows the roads dictates where you stop. When you see lights, stop. I hate when I initiate a traffic stop and the person keeps going makes several turns and stops on a side street creating a bottleneck of traffic. If I light you up and you take 3-5 business days to pull over I’m wondering are you retrieving a gun to ambush me or are you stashing drugs
Same as you would with any other police officer……if officer is in plain clothes and you suspect something off you can call 911 or the non emergency number depending on the scenario and confirm with the dispatcher that person pulling you over is an actual police officer and not someone impersonating one or something worse.
I asked an officer of an unmarked car this question and he said he always calls a marked car if he’s stopping someone, and if the driver has doubts, they should call 911 before pulling over. Not running of course. Left me a bit confused but I asked him because I had seen videos of fake cops pulling people over with Amazon light bars and fake badges
Just be aware that calling 911 may not help confirm right away. In my state, the troopers don’t even call in stops to their own dispatch, much less the county dispatch. I work for a different state agency that doesn’t make many traffic stops, but when I do I don’t radio the county to tell them and may not even have that county’s radio channel.
Pull over. Give your documents
Unlike @Pasabuc
Keep driving, even faster perhaps with sharp turns to loose them.
If they’re real, they will realize what you’re doing and send quite a few marked vehicles to your location for peace of mind.
If they’re fake they’ll give up without sending marked cars to help you out.
Edit: this is a joke, follow pasabuc comment.
Show him your gun as fast as you can so you can compare duty weapons
