What should I do with my life? ( teen asking)

r/

I’m 16, and I’m going through this weird crisis where I feel like life is slipping away. I deleted Instagram and TikTok two days ago, because I am so addicted, but now I’m unsure what to do with my time. I’ve got exams coming up, so yeah, i need to study — but I also need something to fill my free time.

I’m not the most social person, but I really want to work on that. The thing is, I don’t know what to do besides listening to music, and learning about music alone in my room. I don’t hate reading — I just haven’t really gotten into it yet.

What should I do with my free time and also just life in general ?

Learn, find a hobby, read books, you’re still a child, there are many things you don’t need to worry about yet.

Get off the fucking internet and live.
Find purpose, enjoy life, go pet a duck.

Hey, what you’re feeling is totally normal. Being 16 is confusing, and wondering what to do means you’re thinking about what matters to you which is good! Deleting Instagram and TikTok is a big step, so nice job taking control.

Learn to meditate. If you have free time to learn a skill and you are feeling a bit lost, I highly recommend. Regular meditation practise has so many benefits.

In terms of socialising, look into some activities you might like to try that you can go to a class or group for. It’s often easier to meet new people and make friends when there’s purpose and shared interest to initially meeting

Stare at an uninteresting spot on the wall for 4 hours straight and listen to your mind. No music, no interruptions, and no other stimulation. You’ve never listened to your mind that deeply before but you’ll understand what to do after that.

My absolute best advice would be to think about what you would like your last thoughts to be. how did you live, how many lives did you impact, and were you happy? Can u say you died well? There is a lot to life besides the mundane things we cycle into systemically. Find a non conditional source of love within yourself, and you will never go wrong.

Trust me, take that free time and just love being alive. Appreciate the little things. That feeling of gratitude will overpower many things, boredom included.

Join scouts. I learned how to make friends at 15. A skill i hadnt really mastered before that. Made some very good ones I still speak to in my 30s.

And start reading. Maybe join a book club. And check out other events run by your local library.
