What TV show from your past do you think would’ve been even better if it had the kind of big budgets that today’s shows get?

r/

Thinking of some of the shows I watched: Star Trek seems to have done a good job with whatever budget they had. Part of the charm of Red Dwarf is the cheaper sets, on the other hand, the later seasons with the bigger budgets where still good. Bonanza was a big Western for the time, but what if it had had the budget of Yellowstone?

Did you have a favorite show that you think was handicapped by its low budget?

If TV wasn’t so low resolution the wires would have been always visible.

Big budgets can be a detriment. When working on a shoestring, artists are often forced to come up with creative solutions which make the end product better. For example, in Monty Python’s Holy Grail, the joke about clacking coconuts together for the horses came about because they simply didn’t have the budget for real horses. It is an iconic part of the movie that simply wouldn’t exist if they had more money.

And look at how much better Tim Burton’s films were before he had unlimited resources.

Tales from the Darkside and Friday the 13th the series. The storytelling was awesome but the acting and FX were pretty cringe worthy. I still enjoyed the shows anyways but they could have been better.
