What was a popular toy that you wanted but never had?

r/

I always wanted a cabbage patch doll. Specifically, the one with a pacifier & white shoes. What about you?

Easy Bake Oven. My mother said no to this toy every single Christmas. Probably all for the best. But as a kid it’s perplexing.

My mom was really cool about getting me things that I wanted, especially for Christmas and birthdays.

The place she drew the line was on bases or playsets. The 2 I always wanted were the Star Wars Death Star and GI Joe USS Flag carrier. She would never budge on those 2.

    The Barbie Dream House.

The G.I. Joe USS Flag aircraft carrier. It was like 10ft long, there was literally no place to put it in our tiny house.

Not a toy but as a child I really wanted a piano and to take lessons. My mom bought me an inexpensive keyboard and a few books but I really struggled to understand and gave up because I had no guidance.

As an adult I asked my first husband for a piano and he occasionally would say sure…when we can find one at a good price. That was fair but year after year it just never happened. I occasionally played a bit at our church and tried to learn but again frustrating.

My second husband told me when we got married that when we bought a house he’d get me a piano. I saw a post from member of our church about 3 years ago for a “free if you move it” piano and 4 hours later it was in my home. At 50 I finally got my piano.

I haven’t been absolutely dedicated to learning but I really enjoy using an app that allows me to learn bit by bit to play and read music.

My husband can play and it’s sweet to hear him play for me and see him teaching my grandson who is only 2.

I keep adding to a list of Things Banned By My Dad. He was the safety director at work and he brought his work home with him.

Popular toys banned by my dad- clackers, chemistry sets, archery sets, Easy Bake ovens, Creepy Crawler makers, wood burning sets.

I could go on. I circled items and folded corners on pages of the Sears catalog but none of these coveted items ever materialized.

Big Wheel. Some toys I wanted, but never got, I got as an adult on eBay, like the Fisher Price Garage and some older Lego sets. But the while, yes, various companies make a “Big Wheel for adults,” it’s not the same.

Really wish I had gotten the original Kenner X-wing or Millennium Falcon, but my parents were really cheap when it came to buying us toys. I got the landspeeder and a few figures, and that was it.

Wanted Star Wars and GI Joe stuff as a kid when it was huge. Parents said no because guns were involved and thus it was too violent.

Wasn’t allowed LEGO because they didn’t want to end up stepping on them.

The Green Machine. The original obviously, not new ones.

I wanted to use the grips to do spinouts like the commercials.
