Buying a house during the pandemic at 2.75% interest rates.
The rock I put on my wife’s finger.
The time i spent building my business.
You have an account just for posting in this sub?
Best based on pure return, made 300% on Bitcoin, but it wasn’t a life changing amount.
So far, getting my degree. I got an Electrical Engineering degree for very little debt, can’t really complain after the hell i went through during school.
I left school without a diploma. Went to evening schools shortly after. Had to pay for that education. Best investment ever.
Built a new spec house in 2017 for $181k and sold it in 2022 for $285k.
My MSc, it cost me £5k out of pocket because the company paid the rest. It’s changed the way I think, I investigate information more critically and it’s set me up for a better career.
Great office chair
Bitcoin, when nobody knew about it. I thought it was an interesting piece of tech that was anti-capitalist and bought a few hundred dollars worth when they were like $50 or something.
1.Getting married to a woman who cares about me.
2. Spending as much time with my children.
3. Completing my master’s degrees.
4. Obtaining two hair transplants.
5. Buying silver and gold when it was affordable.
6. Opening up a Robinhood account.
Bitcoin at $1 a piece.
My degree
Watched hidden secrets of money and mike maloneys wealth cycles video, researched the people who were guests in the series, learned from them about economics and monetary theories, THEN I got into stocks. Lot of prep time but it sure does pay off.
That six month Python and Machine Learning bootcamp. It’s paid for itself many orders of magnitude over.
A divorce 🤷♂️
As expensive as my house down payment, but utterly worth it.
Being married to the wrong person is no way to go through life.
I went to tractor trailer school when I was about to turn 21. This gave me so many job opportunities by having a cdl.
Investing time in becoming an expert in something. Becoming so good that you get a reputation for it.
Once you have honed a single skill to that level, life is easier to live and understand.
A $2 can of yellow spray paint. I still have many of my original tools that I had purchased when I was 15, I think I purchased $900 worth of tools and marked them all with yellow paint. Since that time, I’ve been on hundreds of construction, public, and government sites. Anytime I see someone walking around with a yellow-spray painted tool, I know it’s mine and they do too. I’ve never had a tool stolen since.
My son was working his first job ever at a movie 🎥 rental place just as the pandemic 😷 hit! He was getting waaaay more in unemployment than working and instead of just blowing the money, like I would have at his age. He put all of his unemployment and stimulus checks into Tesla and Bitcoin! I can not tell you how proud it made me and he still has not touched the investments and my God have they grown insanely
My education.
Best returns would probably be the Tesla stock I bought years ago. I think my cost basis for that was like $20 a share.
From my male partner: Calvin Klein boxer briefs. He says they’ve changed his life lol
bitcoin at $3,000
My wife.
Plain and simple I have gotten a return far far greater than anything I put in.
She was a shy girl when I first met her not confident and completely not sure of her place in the world.
She was an unemployed college student when I married her.
She spend 15 years making big money at a tech company helping balloon our net worth into the over 2 million range. She gave me 3 amazing smart and perfect children she worships me and thinks I’m the greatest man alive.
Nothing I have invested in has paid anywhere near the dividends that my wife does.
Being with the right woman.
She affects every area of my life. From what I consume to how supported I am to work, to the emotional support of helping prioritize all the right things in life. Life is both harder and easier in all the right ways.
School. 4 years, nursing BSN, had a job waiting for me. Now, I’m in an educating position, teaching others. Opportunities and OT if I want it, are pretty endless. This wage and in demand career allowed me to get a mortgage and buy a home.
VOO. It’s a turtle race everybody.
$30 in medical tape, rubber bands and safety pins, used for four years pay nice dividends today from a restored foreskin (t-tape restoration method)
A gym membership.
I was scrawny and small, couldn’t even lift a 20kg bar. Some years later, I’m not scrawny and small anymore; and I can push/throw things AND people easier! I haven’t skipped a leg day so I’ve also gotten a bit faster if not able to jump higher! I’m also being noticed more by folks in a positive way.
SPY. Stock options. My degree. 2003 Miata.
We built a patio with a roof and a TV/fireplace. Spent a lot. We have a ton of gatherings, have become great friends with our neighbors… and then their friends. Worth every penny.
My marriage!
$250 for a vasectomy in my late 20’s.
I yolo’d spy calls like a true WSB degen and 6x’d my money
The best investment I ever made also happens to be the first investment I ever made.
tl;dr: I bought an apartment block in a residential dead zone and converted it into student housing. So a block of 12 three bedroom apartments became a dorm of 36 student rooms.
Shortly after my first relationship failed I threw everthing I had into making more money. I knew from the books I’d read and the lessons various mentors had taught me over the years. That if I wanted to make real money, then I’d have to go further up the stream of wealth to get a bigger cut. And to get the biggest cut? For that I’d need to be at the source.
I decided to become an owner, specifically a landlord, but at the age of 15, even with no collateral to speak of, I was underage to legally own property, and frankly too young to be taken seriously, so I had to use one of my uncles as a proxy. I’ll be honest, I chose my uncle for his loyalty, had I fully understood back then the kind of vibe he gives off I would’ve risked using a different family member.
There’s a saying “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer” which in essance means that rich will always build more wealth, while the poor will always squander it all away.
My uncle (and to be fair to him, most of my family, especially on my dad’s side of the family) is a poor man.
Nobody would loan “us” the money, not until after what felt like a thousand rejections, we finally found one shrewd banker that recognized that my uncle was just a proxy. He spoke directly to me, and we talked together for what must have been close to an hour. He agreed to give me all the money I asked for, even offered more, and all under favourable terms.
So, with the money in hand, I bought an apartment block in a residential dead zone that I’d found awhile back, and converted it into student housing. And I did the same again, and again, and again. Eventually I moved on to buying and renting properties for non-student use, which would later lead me to finding my niche within the elder care property market.
Dumped a few grand into Tesla stock when it was worth $50/share. Then sold for like $350~.
XRP

Prescription insoles for my shoes. Seriously.
I’m hoping myself and business is the correct answer. Its been years of struggle since COVID and if this venture takes off the readjustment may have been painful, but ultimately I want to get to the point that I’m glad it happened.
In terms of ROI, probably my first car. I bought it at an auction for $208, drove it all across the united states for 8 years, then sold it for $1500.
House i bought for $92k.
Also buying 50 shares of facebbook stock back when it was $37-38.
AAPL and NFLX starting in 03
We bought the lot behind us just to keep anyone from buying it. 2 years later the market had exploded and we sold it for twice what we paid. Paid off a chunk of bills.
It’s not really that much, but it’s huge for me. I recently bought a $2000 machine, used, for about 200 bucks at an online auction. Only took some basic tools, lube, and a bit of elbow grease to get it in fine working condition. Hasn’t made me any money yet but it puts me a big step closer to starting my own business.
Amd stocks before they went up like crazy
Good quality shoes, mattress and desk chair
anything related to health.
In 2011 I’d saved for about 10 years to move out of the trailer park I was in and I finally had enough to pay for a house in cash. I knew it wasn’t the smartest financial decision to pay in cash, but I hated the idea of losing my job and not being able to make my mortgage.
At almost the last moment, I decided against that and instead put 20% down on 5 houses. I lived in one and rented/rent out the other 4. At first I was barely getting enough in rent to cover the mortgage, but the housing market has gone crazy the last 15 years. These houses are all worth more than 3 times what I paid for them (I bought at more or less the bottom of the housing market) and rent is way more than the mortgages (which are almost paid off).
I feel a bit bad being a slumlord, but I try to be a good landlord to offset those feelings.
Investing in my health.
I bought $1000 of Apple stock in the late 90s when it was trading around $19. It has split several times since then. My $1000 investment is now worth about half a million.
The only investment I’ve made better than that was developing a relationship with the woman that is now my wife.
Bought an Awp dragon lore (and other csgo skins) in 2017. With the introduction of china to the market the prices have skyrocketed, up to over 1000% in some cases.
CS:GO esports stickers. Bought em at 10 cents ~10 years ago, now they’re close to $100. Easily my best performing investment.
My wife has me beat though, she used to play TF2 competitively and she won a bitcoin back in the day, sold at $60k.
In order both importance and timeline:
Signing a purchase agreement on a brand new home (to be built) early February 2020. By the time I had to lock in my rate, interest rates had cratered and I gained about 300k in equity due to demand skyrocketing in my area. That was before I even moved in.
Pure luck, but one of the best decisions I ever made looking back.
Dogecoin at 5 per penny.
Not to sound corny, but the $5000 engagement ring I bought my wife. Also the $370k loan for med school.
Buying two homes and land at the right time has been my best so far.
Buying oil stock when the price of a barrel dropped to zero some good 5 years ago I think during the Oil wars
When I was 16 years old I bought stingray cowboy boots that I thought were very cool for around $500. I wore them every day for 10 years. Looked great, stylish, tons of attention honestly kinda changed my life as a normally very shy person
