what would happen if the police enter a home to search, and there’s a dog jumping on them but not showing any signs of aggression, just playfulness

r/

out of curiosity, i see people say usually they’ll shoot the dog if they think it’s a threat but what if the dog is jumping up and running around them out of excitement, and not being aggressive

Fuck that I’m playing with the dog while the rookies search the house…

Don’t know. If I could see the future I would have waited until the biggest lotto drawing of the year and bought a ticket with the numbers so I could retire.

I’ve had many dogs jump on me and want to play. I haven’t shot any of them. I’ll sometimes ask they be put up, or held on to by someone. If they’re real problematic and I can’t have anyone take control over them, I’ll sometimes kick them off and they get the hint.

I’m a major dog lover. I’ve encountered probably hundreds if not thousands of dogs in my career. Some were aggressive, some were simply territorial and wary of a stranger coming around their home/owners, most have been friendly or skittish. Of the aggressive dogs I’ve encountered, all were the result of bad owners and a lack of obedience training. I only ever had to shoot one after it attacked and bit a special needs kid, attacked and bit me, and then tried attacking another citizen. Legit one of the saddest days of my career. It wasn’t the dog’s fault, it was the bad owner. It lived its life on chain and never received training or social interaction. So when it finally got loose, it ran wild. If the dog had lived I was going to pay the vet bills and adopt it once it was seized from the owner. Unfortunately it died but thankfully it died immediately and didn’t suffer. That’s really the only consolation I have. Like I said, legit one of my saddest days but there were other citizens and children around and I absolutely could not let it attack anyone else, especially child.

Usually play with the dog and then put it in a room until we are done. Then play with the dog again.
