After I lost a lot of weight I ran into some old college friends, and they complimented me on how good I looked. I’d never heard that before then, and I still hold onto how good it felt.
“You’re worth it”: My grandmother who saved and skimped on as much as she could took me shopping for my christmas gift once. and she told me /That when the puzzle i really wanted was more expensive than the others. it meant a lot to me for somebody to say that, I’d never really been told that before
Someone yelled “DAMN GIRL! You been EATin’ your cornbread!” When they drove by and I was leaning into my car to get something. It made me laugh so hard. It still does. So creative.
I forget them all because they are as shallow as what my compliments feel like towards others. It feels like mandatory platitudes made of ice thrown into boiling water.
When I was in my teens this young lady at movie popcorn stand told me I had beautiful green eyes. Of course, all the customers behind laughed and jeered! I said thank you, got my popcorn, and walked quickly to the theater. Sadly, when I came out of the movie she already left to go home.
Hell, people who claim to be my friends call me “an insufferable manchild who makes everyone around me miserable”, so, uhh, I really couldn’t tell ya lol
I took extra care one day and I did my hair especially nice and I went to work .This woman that was just an acquaintance came over to me .she said I have never seen you look more beautiful than you do today.
“If I was a woman, I’d want tits as perfect as yours”… said by a guy I was dating who 35 years later did actually become a woman but who’s breasts aren’t as perfect as mine.
I was told that I looked happier.. I’ve been suffering since New Year’s Eve. Life has been kicking my ass but hearing that gave me a little light to keep going forward.
This one girl I still think about every now and told me I was pretty and that I have pretty eyes. I was really interested in her at one point but never went anywhere
I was at lunch with a friend & old coworker bc he was moving out of the state. He told me at lunch “I hope I find someone like you in California but I know I won’t” I was speechless (which isn’t usually like me lol) he was staring at me & it was kinda intense. He was a very sweet & sincere guy. I said “aw thank you so much” I didn’t know what to say but I thought that was so sweet omg
A group of drunk 20 something year olds at brunch told me that I was a good mom and that I was doing amazing.
I nearly had a cryptic pregnancy, post partum was really kicking my ass, and my family dragged me out for a holiday tradition when I was still 3 weeks into recovery from an emergency C-section. I was not doing well and hearing that from a groups of strangers really helped, but having the whole situation made it seem surreal and like I would eventually overcome the craziness.
At the time I always felt like I was messing everything up, and having my own mother constantly telling me so was really putting me in a dark place. I bought my then-4 year old daughter a toy, and on the way to the car she took it out of the bag and let the bag fly. I said something like “oh no! We don’t do that! We have to take care of the earth!” We chased the bag down and I grabbed it. A random, older man saw the whole thing and said that I’m a good mama. His comment had nothing to do with anything else, but I definitely needed to hear it at that point in my life. I cried a whole lot about it after she was asleep for the night.
I worked in a nursing home, we had this lady in a wheelchair who couldn’t speak, only babbled. One day I walked in the door and she’s sitting there, looks at me and says clear as day “you’re beautiful”. Made my heart happy. I miss her.
I worked in Aged Care & I got so much love from the old people. I have long curly hair & I’d get many compliments from them about my hair. Always made me smile.
“Hey, you with the face”… This was at a Methodist Church meetup for teens. I never returned to church and realised that hypocrites are everywhere. Luckily I turned out avg looking, but this stuck with me forever.
Getting a coach cross-state in Louisiana. One girl at a gas station who shouted at me that I had a nice smile as I’m main character syndroming out the window. Never been so startled and surprised happy in the same moment.
No idea what I was thinking about before but that memory and feeling lives on 13 years later.
Another imaginary wedding planned this June for any Redditers who want to attend!
A guy on the street complimented my nose once. This is the first and only time it has ever happened. I don’t think I have a particularly outstanding nose so it definitely caught me off guard.
A few years ago I partied too hard and then woke up late for work , no make up , no shower , maybe 2h of sleep . Spent all day serving tons of people at a rooftop bar back home super packed . This guy came up to me , end of my 8h shift ( I looked even worse then ) and said : I have a wife but I just wanna tell you that you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen it . I definitely never forgot that one ! Made my day 😉
Maybe not a direct verbal compliment but the actions.
I was at a club in my early 20s and was talking to a table of girls and the leader told me to flex so I did. And as soon as she touched my bicep… the millisecond the other girls saw that it was OK to touch me they scrambled over so fast that they were literally falling over and knocking down chairs to feel my bicep… it was like living an axe bodyspray commercial lol
I was sitting in a chair next to my ex-boyfriend in his apartment, and he kept looking at me. I jokingly told him he should take a picture. He said that was a good idea—and he did. The way he captured me in that one photo was perfect. He looked at the photo, smiled, and said, “It’s perfect.” Then he looked back at me, and in that moment, it felt like time stopped. That’s when I knew what love felt like. We are friends now, but I am glad to have known it.
The other day I bought a car battery and there was a older guy standing behind me in line, as I picked the battery up off the counter, I guess he felt like I didn’t seem to struggle with it much but he was like ‘Wow, that’s quite impressive young lady’ and I was SO flattered🤣😭 but realistically that battery probably weighed about the same as my clingy son, and so came back at him with ‘Yeah, my kid weighs about as much as this thing. It’s nothin’ and then he WHISTLED like that long impressed one they do🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭 I died laughing when I got back to my friends car
Comments

You have a nice face. Tied between Edward Cumberbatch and Channing Tatum
“last night I had a dream you died… I woke up crying. Oh my god, I can’t even imagine if you died!”
I laughed and said, “Would you come to my funeral?”
she replied, “Oh hell no. I would be dead too. I care about you too much.”
She was a close friend of mine, and it’s not really a compliment, but made me feel good as shit
my crush in 7th grade told me that… she’s my wife now<3

For some reason I got called Charismatic once and I always remember it
Random girl in voice chat:
Who is breathing so sexually?
“Goddamn! Girl! Your ass is fat!” Thank you kind sir, I poop from there.
“when I say I love you, it’s you that I love. Not this version of you that you think you could be”
They said – ‘You are the glue’. When I moved away and the friend group sorta just dissolved.
People don’t compliment me
Hell, people who claim to be my friends call me “an insufferable manchild who makes everyone around me miserable”, so, uhh, I really couldn’t tell ya lol

Senior year of high school this Eddie Munson look doppelgänger tells me that I have amazing hair, too bad I wasn’t a head banger.
I’ve been told I’m a good scaffolder.
Might put a bit too much kit into jobs but I’ve never had one fall down.
Grandmothers are just the best
You are the only person who has never once bored me. My best friend since 82.

“Your eyes are like staring into a crystal clear blue pool.”
And then it turns out she wasn’t in the middle of a divorce. Thanks Morgan.

I was hungover cashiering on a Monday, really hot girl told me I had a good smile and she was hungover too. Made the day better for sure 🙂

When you’re older you’ll break hearts
I had a rando at a bar once tell me I have really nice clavicles. As a chubby girl it was a nice compliment.
I worked in Aged Care & I got so much love from the old people. I have long curly hair & I’d get many compliments from them about my hair. Always made me smile.
Recently someone described me as caring and whimsical. It made my day.
One time, a girl told me I was a nice guy helping her out when she was feeling down. Has anyone ever said something like that to you?

Several people have told me they never know whether I’m joking or being serious.
Neither do I buddy, neither do I
Thank you for keeping me alive 😃
“You look like Lucas from Empire Records”.
Now that I’ve aged, I don’t get it any longer, but got it from a handful of different people who were in no way connected.
”What is with today today?”
“You look like you fuck” – random pack leader of a group of drunk girls walking past me during night life

“Yes”
Been married ever since.
“You’re the most naturally smart person I’ve ever met” (He lead me on while having a girlfriend)
“You have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen” (He was a grown man and I was a 16 year old retail employee)
I heard an old neighbour lady, that I visited regularly as a kid, say “Mona is a faithful soul.”
Maybe not a direct verbal compliment but the actions.

Not sure what I’m doing different, but lately when I go dancing I’ve been told “I just love your vibe!” It just makes my day 🙂

You’re refreshing

I was trying on a new gloss at Sephora and a older lady watching me said “Wow you’re so pretty” 😭
