One night stands. If you, as a guy, try sleeping with everyone you can, you’re gonna run into some trouble. I’d say for every ten girls you get with, you’ll get either a pregnancy scare, std scare, or false allegation. Whether it’s the rubber that breaks, or her crazy side that comes out, you gonna be paying the price big time.
It gives you dopamine you get from sex but without the bonding .. this slowly makes you snti social because you can easily get the supply without going through the hassle of a partner
It isolates you , put unrealistic expectations on your partner, normalises abusive sex, causes impotency among healthy men because real women cannot match the porn stars
Worst of all, it’s virtually free if you have internet connection and no visible effects
It’s true, there are plenty of habits that can erode your life over time. If I may offer a perspective that I heard…..”long term studies have concluded that if an individual eats healthy, exercises and avoids alcohol, drugs and other vices, you will still die.”
Making politics a big part of your identity. It just tends to make you anxious, depressed and tends to make you dislike humans. It makes you focus on doomsday scenarios. It can radicalize you. Yes this happens to liberals too as a liberal it happened to. Liberals ignore that we get propagandized too and have our own echo chambers. And there’s a lot of bullying going on.
Social media – people tend to feel depressed and anxious comparing themselves to others. You can be influenced to buy junk you can’t really afford and harm yourself financially. Plus spending too much time on social media means you are neglecting your life and goals.
Relying on takeout, fast food, and microwaveable meals all the time. I’m not talking occasionally, but people who never cook at home and have zero idea what is going in their body.
Smoking weed. As I go to wake and bake for the 17th weekend in a row in 2025. I think its effect stacks with the self isolation others have mentioned for a doublely bad “harmless” habit.
Daydreaming! Never realized before the past year that obsessively daydreaming, imagining scenarios/conversations in your head is so harmful to your reality. You will never be satisfied with yourself in real life and you will always be over-romanticizing situations that are actually bad for you.
Not keeping a clean kitchen adds stress to your life, and living in a constant state of stress makes life more difficult, making it easier for things to go wrong
I’m writing this as someone who doesn’t clean their kitchen every day
Foolish generosity. Your greatest value is thinking of yourself first before others especially when it comes to personal advancement in a family. You can give your all to push everyone else ahead thinking they’d be there for you and find out belatedly you’re the only one with your mindset. Always be generous to yourself and your life plans first before considering others.
Self harm. I know it doesn’t seem harmless, but when most people start, it does seem fairly harmless. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, it helps, and most people start with cat scratches that aren’t deep and are very superficial and don’t leave scars. It’s just a “bad coping skill” without any real consequences.
But over time you can’t stop and it keeps escalating and suddenly you’re needing stitches and scared about infections and hitting important structures in your arm and you just can’t stop obsessing about it and going back to it no matter how scary it is and you need professional help now and you’re covered in scars that’ll never go away.
Something that started as very minor and superficial stress relief when you were like 13 consumes your life and spits you out all chewed up.
Procrastination and downplaying the importance of getting something done. Still can’t believe it’s been 5 years since covid. Time flies by fast and it’s easy to look back and imagine all the stuff you could have done or achieved in life since then.
Using a computer, if you use one for work, once you log off, log off for the day. Don’t use your own laptop or own computer. It will help your eyes and head in the long run.
