A mini series that is packaged as a ten hour movie called the 10th kingdom. A magical brother grimm fairytale story. Its incredible. By Hallmark in the early 2000. It gets me cause in the opening the twin towers are there and then New York turns into a fairytale land called the 9 kindoms. New york is the 10th.. highly recommend it. Its a loooong great movie!!!
Edit: omg!! Im so excited to see how many others know this movie and love it as well!! Huff puff! Im so excited! Everyone in my everyday life that i speak to about it, have no idea what it is or have seen it. I feel seen here today!!!!
Space Camp (1986). Made by ABC Motion Pictures. It was their last film. It released on June 6th, 1986 and the studio shuttered in October.
Some of the leads were Lea Thompson and Kate Capshaw. Also, a young man who is billed as ‘Leaf Phoenix’. It was Joaquin Phoenix, but he chose to go by Leaf during this time period. Space Camp was his first major role.
tl;dr: A bunch of kids at space camp get launched on a shuttle and the one adult with them gets sidelined and they have to somehow contact NASA and help land the orbiter.
I’ve loved this film since I first saw it as a kid. I was always fascinated with space travel and in particular the Space Shuttle program as the first launch was just three months after I was born. Of course, on January 28th 1986, the Challenger disaster happened. This film had the misfortune of coming out not even six months later. It made just under 10 million on an 18 million budget.
Some of the old school 90s 20th Century Fox animated movies. I think people remember Fern Gully and Anastasia but no one remembers Once Upon a Forest. That one stuck to me because of one particular fucked up scene.
Somehow it became me and my friends’ favorite movie in jr high in early 2000’s but I feel like none of my adult friends have heard of it.
Edit: given the response, just wanted to add that I actually visited Biosphere 2 in Tucson just a few weeks ago (the facility the movie is based on)! Was disappointed they didn’t make any reference to the movie on the audio tour or in the gift shop 🤣
Waking Life, the animated film by Richard Linklater. A profound dive into what it is to exist. My advice, don’t do heavy drugs the first time. Just light drugs.
The Master of Disguise. I’ve never been able to find anyone I know irl who knows what I’m talking about. It feels like a fever dream whenever I think about it. The constant butt jokes and crass behavior was a hallucination I swear
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I feel like it was a fever dream and I’ve never heard anyone talk about it. I happened upon it in the library about 14 years ago and it’s existence crosses my mind every so often.
A universal pictures movie from 1995 about a wolfdog named Balto in the town of Nome, Alaska that wants to become a sled dag but is outcasted for being a half-breed. One night all the children fall ill and a special medication is need. The town sets out the fastest sled dog team to go to the medicine but they don’t return as a planned due to bad snow storm makes them get lost and the Musher in knocked unconscious from an accident. Once news makes it to Balto that the team is pretty much stranded he sets out to find them and he eventually does, takes the spot as the lead sled dog and brings the team and medicine back to Nome just time to save all the children.
The Money Pit. Tom Hanks and whatsername, Diane from Cheers. One of the funniest films I’ve watched. Also a movie starring Tom Selleck as a guy whose whole world gradually crumbles as he loses everything and ends up living with his elderly father in a trailer park, in Florida? Father had dementia I think, anyway lots of relatable family drama and laugh out loud comedy moments. If anyone knows what the movie is called, please tell me. I’d love to watch it with my elderly dad who thankfully doesn’t suffer from dementia
1987 movie with Keshia Knight Pulliam, Rue McClanahan, and William Daniels. It was a made for TV movie (possibly Hallmark). We had it taped on VHS and I remember watching it around Christmas.
I somehow remember nothing about the plot of the movie.
Little Monsters. I idolized my twelve-years-older half brother as a kid and that was his favorite movie. When I learned that at 8 years old, I demanded my mom get it and watched it all the time. Also Splash. It got my sister and I obsessed with mermaids. It might just be because we are millennial kids and these were ‘older’ movies but never heard anyone my age mention them/know what I’m talking about if I mention them
The Indian in The Cupboard. One of my childhood favourites, but anytime I bring it up to friends they all say theyve never heard of it. We are all the same age more or less (late 30s) we grew up in the same era I cant wrap my head around how theyve never heard of it. It makes me feel like im going a bit nuts and the film doesnt actually exist or something.
I have the PERFECT answer. I will be shocked if anyone comments that they know what the hell Im talking about. Its called The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. Its a 1950s fever dream of a movie about a kid who falls asleep and dreams that his piano teacher is evil and lords over a kingdom where children are forced to play piano endlessly. Its the only feature film written by Dr Seuss. He also wrote the screenplay I believe and let me just say you can tell lol. Go look up images of this movie and youll understand what I mean lmao. Its one of the weirdest movies Ive ever watched and Ive probably seen it 20 times during my childhood
I feel like the movie, The Others, with Nicole Kidman, which was a great creepy as fuck movie, is something I tell others about and they’re like, huh? What?
Milo and Otis. I really liked it as a kid, especially the scene where Milo teases the bear in the dresser. Looking back, it makes me pretty sad to think what they put those poor animals through. Now I can’t even find it anymore.
Also, my sister’s orange cat Milo is named after that movie.
Adventures in Babysitting. It’s like an actual good movie. Adventure, comedy, drama. Not like a babysitters club. Watched it as a kid and several times as an adult and it’s still good, not just a nostalgia factor.
