Someone once told me I had a “trustworthy face” — no idea what that means, but I’m still riding on that compliment years later. 😂

I had to go to City Hall to file some paperwork. I have kind of a deep voice and goes even deeper early in the morning or if I have sinus/allergies.
The lady behind the counter asked me if I was a voice actor or was on the radio. She said I had a very nice voice. Totally made my day
I’ve got a few.
My buddy in HS said I had soft hands. It wasn’t in any flirty or weird way, just an observation.
Had some random old lady tell me she liked my shirt. It’s a skeleton shirt. I still have it, though it’s a bit small
Got told by a guy I delivered pizza to once that I should take up singing, as I have the voice for it
“You were destined to outshine the sun.”
Still have no idea who she was or why she said it, this was in the middle of a disaster, but I’m glad she did.
One day my girl best-friend told me my outfit looked like a movie villain but in a good way and weirdly enough I loved that
Somebody after knowing me for a week called me the coolest guy they ever met. Never met them after.
When I hear your working to resolve in an issue I know everything is going to be ok
My favourites, ten years apart, both so sincerely said: “You’re so beautiful in the dark” and “You look like Angelina Jolie in the dark.” The first in actual pitch black. The second in light conditions that would have challenged an angler fish.
What can I say? Not being able to see me is frikken STUNNING 😂
I was sitting at a light on a sunny day, sunglasses on and windows down. A bus pulled up next to me and the driver waved at me, opened his window, and told me I looked like Linda Carter. He said he thought he was sitting next to Wonder Woman.
It made my day.
I’ve had people telling me I have positive energy or a good aura. Always my favorite type of compliment!
I was once told I’ve got a bartender’s charm by a customer at work. Honestly, not too sure exactly how they meant it but I took it as a compliment
“You’re a hearty individual!” Said by an indoor tradesman running from one unit to the next, in the pouring rain. I was doing a small repair outside, wearing rain pants but no coat or sweater, singing my heart out because I thought I was alone. When you are a woman in a male-dominated work place, a genuine compliment that isn’t about your looks is very, very nice for a change.
“You aren’t as dumb as you look.”
I was a FB player in college. People always thought I “looked and sounded dumb”. I am from the South and this was a school in Boston.
This was after my PHD defense.
When one certain person on the panel said this I knew I aced it, lol.
When I was working bar in college, a drunk woman grabbed my nose and said, “Your nose is so fucking small!”
Um, thanks?
I’ve been told numerous times I give good hugs. They’re genuine and caring. Which I don’t intend but glad I can make someone feel good!
” not to be creepy, but you have the most gorgeous eyes I’ve ever seen”- random stranger
For some reason it’s always older ladies who give me the best ones.
One time this very eccentric, very colorful older lady stopped me in the grocery store and said “Hon i love your outfit, your hair, you just have such a nice aura!” i returned the compliment and her and her little doggy disappeared down the aisle lol
Another time, i’m in a check out line buying monster high dolls with my friends and we’re all alternative/goth, she says “you guys are so lovely! just like the dolls! i used to dress like you but i’m too old now.” and we all were like “what are you talking about? you’re so pretty there’s no such thing as being too old.”
The last one i can think about is this very elderly lady (walker, oxygen, caretaker) she comes up behind me in line, leans in and is like “i love your hair, do you think i’d look good with that?” (i had like bright purple atm) i told her that should would look the coolest and she giggled “you’re too sweet” and her daughter i’m gonna assume comes up and thanks me for talking to her and walks her away.
Loved those ladies i can’t wait to be like them ❤️
I was dressed up for a concert and ran a quick errand beforehand. A very nice man literally stopped in his tracks, looked me up and down, and said “DAMN!” In a very appreciative tone of voice. I kept walking, he smiled, I smiled back and everyone went about their business (with my confidence boosted by a very nice amount). It’s been decades, and I still remember him fondly.
11 years ago, someone wrote to me through an anonymous question service that I have excellent, straight teeth. I was 18 years old, a freshman at university, and a message was left by a guy from my year who was in love with me.
I didn’t even think about my teeth until that day, but since then I consider them my advantage.
I was talking to a woman I babysat for about how her son did, and in the middle of my “report” she just smiles and says: you have a nice nose… 🫠
A colleague at work said to me ‘we were talking about who was our best looking friend, and I said you were’.
It completely caught me off guard. I’m awful at taking compliments and I shrugged it off but it really gave my middle aged overlooked face a boost.
In my early 20s, a coworker once said to me
“I hope my child grows up to be like you”
That compliment really warmed my heart and its something ive tried to live up to.
“You look like you could be a Native porcelain doll if they weren’t white and were Native.”
Had a neighbor a 92 year old woman from Latvia tell me “I was so beautiful I reminder her of a porcelain doll”
Another that stands out is an old nurse who was mean to everyone noticed when I tweezed my eyebrows and said “oh my god you have the most perfect eyebrows”
That’s all that stands out sadly lol.
That I had a good walk
I’m a woman and one of my friends (he’s a man) told me that if he was a woman he would like to have my “hair shape” bc it was very pretty 😂 I thought it was a nice and random compliment
This teenage boy walking out of Walmart as I was walking in, approached me and said I have “cool swag about me”
Like????? I don’t care what anyone else says lol
I look like Isabella Rosalini.
But I don’t that’s the weird part, and why I remember
“A few weeks ago, you were wearing this shirt with a skeleton surrounded by flowers, and ever since then, I’ve associated you with skeletons and flowers.”
It wasn’t exactly a compliment, but it stuck with me because clearly I was being noticed —and also I freaking love that shirt. Definitely don’t mind being associated with its aesthetics. In fact, I’d wear it every day if I weren’t so lazy with laundry.
Oddly proud when nurses telling me I have great veins
My husband went to pick up our marriage certificate and he gave the lady my full name. She said “she sounds gorgeous!” And he agreed that I was. Never got a compliment like that, and I loved hearing about it when I got home from work hahaha
I was at a toll booth going on to the turnpike in Maine, and the guy, an older man, who took my toll told me I had a lovely smile. Years ago. Haven’t forgotten it,.
Saw a woman last week who I hadn’t seen since before Covid. She was staring like she couldn’t place me then she says “Hi it’s been awhile. You are beautiful.” It was nice. Very unexpected.
This boy in high school told me I was “a painting of heaven” – over ten years later as an adult, this is still one of the best
I was trying a new hairstyle and a girl from my class said it looks amazing on me, this happend in 2014
I was giving a presentation to my team of field leaders I support and when I was done and began answering questions, one of them said I don’t have a question I just wanted to say that NJBelle-1029 really genuinely cares about our success and you don’t find that in a lot of places, she will always fight for us, teach us and help us out.
Another time I was giving strangers in a car next to me during morning traffic to the beach, and the guy’s girlfriend leaned over him out the window and said- wow you are really gorgeous. I’d say I’m pretty but like not to the degree she said it, but I felt it that day. I don’t think anyone ever made me feel as attractive as she did. But woman lifting up other woman often does the trick.
My eyes weee the color of these after a storm.
My gyno told me that I had a “perfectly balanced pH”. I still don’t know what to do with that, years later. Like . . . thanks?
“You have a polite penis”
…Ok?
An attractive woman I knew who was speaking to another attractive woman I know said I was every woman’s type. Now I’ve got a good bit of evidence against this but still it was nice.
Random guy stopped on the street to ask for my number because he said I looked “very interesting” I was flattered but also sure he noticed I was wearing my flower pattern tight leggings that made my ass look incredible lol.
Real one I appreciated much more was a little girl (around 9-10) with her grandma, I was working the register at a small shop and she nervously told me she thought I was super pretty and loved my hair ✨
One guy said I was a lovely young woman (im not young but he’s 20 years my senior) and another said that being around me is reassuring and he feels safer.
“OMG YOU HAVE A GEM OF A HAIR!”
When my natural curly hair started growing and I stoped using straightening products on it. Now days is my favorite thing.
I was told I have a “very symmetrical face” which at the time I thought was strange but now years later I truly appreciate that specific compliment.
I was at a gas station paying for a diet dew, and the cashier told me I smelled good. Still brings a smile to my face!
A lady in the bakery at the Costco called gestured me over to tell me that she noticed my blue eyes from across the department and wanted to tell me how prominent they were.
“Just came in to tell you that you look like an angel” – random guy at midnight while I was eating pizza downtown on Halloween night dressed not as an angel, but as Aphrodite.
I can’t remember
i was sleeping with this sweet texas man, and he examined my whole body in the afternoon sun and told me i have the prettiest 🐱 he’s ever seen. i think of it often and i hope he’s doing well lol.
Going across a toll bridge and the man in the booth tells me as I hold out my dollar “The bridge is free today for pretty girls” I smile still holding out my dollar. He says “You can go ahead” and I realize he was telling me the bridge is free that day.
I guess that’s sort of a sad story compliment, but it’s stuck with me. I am a female btw.
I got told I looked like a sexy librarian, but not the naughty kind. I don’t necessarily remember it in a positive way, but it stuck with me years later.
I was walking into the thrift store one day, an older lady stopped me to ask me if I was a model. I giggled and said oh no ma’am, definitely not. She said oh wow, you definitely should be. Made me feel so beautiful that day.
A dentist hygienist once told me I had a beautiful smile. Made me feel really nice, bc she must see a thousand.
Was buying lunch one day and the cashier said my glasses made me look smart.
A gas station attendant told me I had really good vibes once about 20 years ago.
A guy on the bus said hi to me and I got a bit shy and started giggling and then I remembered my big front teeth so I immediately put my hand over my mouth and he said, “don’t cover that pretty smile.”
At my 40th HS reunion, a classmate told my husband (in front of me) that “his wife was the prettiest woman in the room” and how lucky he was to have me. Blew my mind. He was considered one of the popular guys…someone who I would have thought that didn’t even know who I was. Made my heart happy. 😊 Unbeknownst to me at that time, his wife had passed away. That was quite a compliment to give to strangers when your own heart had to be broken. I hear he has since remarried and I hope he has found happiness once again.
When I was in middle school a high school girl told me I had pretty eyes and a nice smile and I’m 26 now
Tbh I think it still sticks with me because I think that’s the first compliment I ever got outside of my grandparents
“You’re incredibly charming”
“Your mood controls the room” by a coworker. It cuts both ways but it was said on a day that started well and took a terrible turn (privately) and everyone got very solemn.
“You’re always so put together”
…which is very meaningful to me because I am NOT. Like, ever. But apparently I’d been faking it pretty well!
You are a ray of sunshine. Or they would say, you are my ray of sunshine. I didn’t realize I could make people feel so bright
“You have really nice armpits” LMAOOOO
I was once told that the way I word things out is so clear, respectful, and direct. I pride myself in making sure I communicate as clearly and polite as possible, even when the topic is tense or hurtful.
“Good story teller” and “looks like Eminem”
Kind of a niche comment, just wanted to share. 🙂
“When you play, music feels alive”. That’s something a teacher said to me during my senior recital back when I was studying my music major. That comment alone is basically the reason I’m still a musician today.
Actually was a couple weeks ago from a coworker “you are the king of being a sarcastic and cynical asshole but i couldn’t imagine this place without you not taking anyones drama here”
Was 19 and going through my first breakup. Stressed and wasn’t taking care of my skin, which was very acne prone. Went to the grocery store, just feeling very blah and this VERY attractive and charming man probably in his mid-twenties stopped me with a wave and said, “excuse me, miss. Just wanted to tell you you’re absolutely stunning.” Then he just smiled this adorable half smile and walked away. I was shocked and just stood there for a minute before my brain started working again. Not only was I surprised someone thought I looked like something other than a bridge troll, but a genuine compliment from a man that had no ulterior motive? Core memory for sure.
A lady asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said Im already doing it, I’m 40. She was shocked, she thought I was a kid. No doubt she was likely legally blind, but she made my whole year.
Not sure if it was a compliment but I once had someone say “You’re gonna look really good when you’re old”. I was like thanks?? Did they mean I look crappy now but that I’d look good when I’m old? Or did they mean I look good now and I’m gonna look good when I’m old? I’ll never know bc I was too afraid to ask in the moment so I choose to say it’s a compliment 😂
When I graduated college, we had a small ceremony within our department major with our advisor doing compliments.
He told everyone I was one of the best writers he had ever had. This wasa huge compliment due to the fact my learning disability caused me to struggle throughout school.
A little girl once asked me if I was a princess 🥹 I’m Latina and always wear my hair in a long side braid. Maybe I was giving Pocahontas vibes 🤭 She made me feel like a princess that day 🥰
Back in school a friend once said I give good hugs. Still smile about that.
You have nicely shaped ears.
Deep in conversation and this person just stops, says that and right back into the non ear related conversation.
“I love your sense of disarray.”
A guy told me once I had excellent vocabulary
Got called beautiful even though i was in a sweatshirt and joggers…. I was not in my pretty girl attire at all in my opinion. Still remember that to this day, his amazing smile. Never seen him again though.
Looking an item offered at a garage sale, I noted that, in addition to its traditional use, you could do this, this or this with it. My friend commented, “You don’t look at the world like most people, do you?”. I felt truly seen and it was the nicest thing ever.
I was walking in an airport and a lady came up to me and asked me if I was someone famous. When I said no, she said, “Oh, you look like you should be.”
I was told I have mermaid hair hahaha
A stunning girl in San Diego telling me that I was “hell cool”.
I was delivering packages to a high rise in downtown Los angeles and this group of ” sex N da city” kinda women started complimenting my legs 😅
If I was 20 years younger, I’d chase you around the block
I was working at dollar general and having a bad day due to being treated like shit by customers. A mother and her little girl (maybe 6-8y/o) approached my register so I started scanning. I saw the girl whisper something to her mom while looking at me. I wasn’t wearing makeup that day so I figured the worst lol.
The mother then turned back to me and said “she wanted to tell you that you’re beautiful like a princess but she was too shy.” It absolutely made my day and I still think about it on the days that I skip makeup.
“You are beautiful”, I’m a tall broad man, feline face tbf but I was touched, nice America girl said it
At a concert before it started my wife and I split to go to the restrooms before. Walked by the ladies line first where I got stared down by a group of 3 girls. After we met back up my wife said that one of the girls said ‘I ‘m going to find him and sit on his face tonight’. She thought it was hilarious.
I was in a restaurant celebrating my 29th birthday with my friends and a dude comes up obviously drunk and said “Happy birthday, you don’t look a day over 95” he walked away and we all burst out laughing. I hope he meant 25 😂
That I was a “cute drunk” – said by my mom LOL
“Your uterus itself is beautiful and pink and healthy” — from my surgeon after a procedure seven years ago to treat endometriosis. I have never felt more flattered in my life. I was like, thanks, man! Grew it myself!
I get compliments on my writing and voice on the phone. Someone asked if I did wedding invitations and if I would do theirs. I’ve also been asked if I could write out their name so they could get it tattooed. (This happened a lot in college).
With my voice someone asked if they could visit and have a conversation at my lunch time because they liked my voice. They offered to buy lunch and meet at my job. One person even kept calling everyday just to keep me on the phone. I’ve also been asked if I did any telephone services like a party line or sex line.
A homeless guy once called me “a gentleman and a scholar” and “I want to be just like you when I grow up” (he was in his 60s and I was 28) because it was cold outside and I gave him $20 to get something to eat and something hot to drink.
I got told i have really nice hands/fingers. It was really random, and i still think about it to this day
“You have the brownest eyes I’ve ever seen”
💔
Rest In Paradise, Matt
😢💔
Walking into a store with my girlfriend during a warm summer day. Guy screams out the window of his car as he drives by “Nice ass”. I said “Thank you, I work out”. He looked confused.
A little girl (maybe about 6 years old) pointed at me and said to her mom “that lady looks like cinderella”
My son’s great grandmother (on his fathers side) is 102, and for the past 10+ years, every time we chat on the phone she tells me “you have a lovely phone voice!” She is such an awesome human, so any compliment from her tickles me.
Like most other people, the sound of my own voice makes me cringe, but she thinks it’s nice. I love her.
he was putting on his shoes while i stood in the doorway waiting, he stopped and softly said, “damn…just look at you.” I still have a huge smile thinking about that moment.
I had a coworker tell me I was the funniest person she’d ever met and I always made her smile.
My rapist told me I was very statuesque.
“You smell good!” Random beautiful girl passing by me in the grocery self-checkout line.
went on a forced weekend retreat with my high school classmates… I was.. not popular, the butt of many jokes and punching bag for a bunch of bullies, but it decided to make the best of it and tried to be open and receptive. Part of the soul search was that we write notes to each other – totally unforced and we didn’t have to do it to everyone – and leave in a mailbox we each had, talking about good things complimenting them on something, whatever. And a few of them were truly heartfelt and made me feel better about my whole experience, but one in particular from an adult showed that she “saw” me , that she knew my outgoingness was an act way out of my comfort zone, and that she was proud of me for it. For some reason that struck hard. My mother found the thing of notes and threw it out but i wi ll always remember that one. I wish I could remember others, or that i still had the letters at all.
A girl I was seeing once gave me a black eye on a drunken night when I told her we shouldn’t see each other anymore, then the next day sent me a long message. The line that really made me smile and I always remembered was something like “you have the most magnetic personality I have ever encountered”
I was once told that I couldn’t find a boyfriend because I am “intimidating”. At the time the comment upset me but now I find it to be a compliment of the highest order.
When I was in college we used to go to a bar that was lit up by black lights and mirrors. (It was the 90s. Lol. 🤷🏼♀️)
I have blue eyes and I guess they sort of glow or something. Idk. I never really understood it but I got lots of, “Damn, your eyes are gorgeous/cool/wild with this black light.” (Tbh, I was never certain if the “wild” was a compliment or if it meant they thought I looked like some kind of glowing eyed demon though. 😂).
My lead teacher said I reminder her of a plumeria and I will hold onto that one forever (I love plumerias)
back in middle school my friend told me i have clear skin
Someone once said I’m “really good at being a normal person” and honestly that felt great 😂
A girl told me I was handsome one time. Still think about it every occasionslly
I was 8,5 months pregnant. My daughter who was 6 years old was going to a sleepover with her best friend. The friends dad picked my daughter up. So I was in an oversized t-shirt and my ex-husbands very large sweatpants. With messy hair and no make up. My tummy was to big for maternity clothes, so that was all I could wear. We made some small talk and right before he left with the kids he sincerely said :You look so beautiful.
That made me very happy. I didn’t exactly feel beautiful.
Not really a compliment unless it is but still non the less stayed with me cause wtf! I was told “tienes cara de cachonda”. Which translates to you have a horny face and basically means you look like someone who likes to have a lot of sex or is always down.
“I really like your ears” – my daughter.
“If my brother doesn’t freak out over a sound outside then I know it’s nothing, he keeps me grounded.”
-my older brother.
He’s a veteran. I live with him and this is something he says to his wife.
I am calm in emergencies
A long time ago I was in line at a Coldstone getting ice cream. I was unshowered, dressed super sloppily and feeling terrible about myself. This little girl comes up and taps on me, looking shy, and tells me “I just wanted to say you’re really pretty.” I teared up and thanked her for being so sweet. It was such a simple compliment but it did wonders. I still remember this 15 years later and hope she’s doing well. ❤️
I gave someone a burger at work. The next morning, she sent me a message saying “the burger you gave me was a life-saver. Continue to be a ray of sunshine” i teared up 🥹
An ex boyfriend was obsessed with my thumbs and called them tiny and perfect. Idk why that stands out to me
Someone told me I radiate warmth and it’s forever my favorite compliment 😭
A man once told me after a wedding that I was one of the most beautiful women he’s ever seen.
It was one of the most genuine, appreciated, non-sexual compliments I’ve ever received. This was 8 yrs ago and it still makes me smile today 😊
I don’t even know if this happened. But I feel I was told I’ve got a nice looking nose. But can’t seem to remember
When I was 11 someone told me I had pretty handwriting. I’m a 33yo man now
Someone told me I look like a young John Stamos. I was probably seven at the time.
Older lady said i reminded her of a young fred astaire when i was dancing. Fully disagreed but i still loved that thought that/thought to say it
Apparently I look like an old school movie star when I’m crying/about to cry. Got told by a friend and my mom, two separate occasions.
“You look like that chick from Hackers” referring to Angelina Jolie. I never much resembled her but at the time I had a similar short haircut and was wearing heavy blue eyeshadow, and I just about jumped the guy that said this to me. 😂
I also had a girl a grade younger than me tell me later that she idolized me, at a time in my life when I was very depressed and often thought of self exit. I was the only goth at my medium-sized New Jersey high school, got regular death threats and such, was generally loved or hated, not much in between. Never would have thought it were true of anyone, if it weren’t the person who actually felt that way telling me. Weird how that can work.
In HS I saw this girl who I was loosely acquainted with, looking kinda sad or stressed in the hallway so I asked if she needed a hug. She said “wow that was a great hug, probably the best hug I’ve ever had”
Today in swimming class an old lady told me: “thank God I never had a body like yours, my very jealous husband would’ve never allowed me to go out”
For someone who struggles with their weight and that has hypothyroidism, it was music to my ears 🥹
Another good things I’ve been told: they feel good going on a trip with me bc I’d make sure to have everything we’ll need 😅
That’s is noticeable when I’m not around 🥰
Received many but the following stands out the most to me:-
Chatting with a newly made friend, she told me that ” your so eloquent in your speech” honestly this compliment is even better than any I’ve received about my looks or anything that’s very generic. It made me feel seen like never before 🫶💕
Too bad she isn’t my friend anymore because honestly I think about her a lot. Fuck you global politics and war.
If Nitzy is reading this- I still think about you everyday
Big D
Ah anytime someone compliments me on my writing 🥲 I’ve always been scared to call myself a “writer” but I write, so obviously I am one! Seriously that’s one of the deepest compliments anyone can pay me.
But also, I like being called adorable by men I think are adorable 🥹
I got told that my self-confidence was infectious and it encouraged the people around me to be less self-conscious and more confident in themselves as well. I’ve spent YEARS learning to be myself authentically, it nearly made me cry
Spike (James Marsters) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer told me i have the most beautiful smile. I’ll shout it from the god damn rooftops 🫠
A friend I lost touch with, a long time ago once told me that I had a magnetic personality and people are just drawn to my orbit. It was a very nice thing to say
“Dang you got normal ass eyebrows.”
I remember this one I got in my late teens. For context I was a quiet child and now adult. I don’t speak alot unless spoken to and even then I may not reply to you. Not rude but genuinely don’t see anything to add. I was in the kitchen with my aunt alone and it was silent and my mum walked in asking to the effect “did she bore u with her silence” and my aunt replied to the effect (can’t remember it’s been 8 years lol) “no, the silence is comfortable”. I have always been around people who thought they can try make me talk or speak with them and chat. Stuck with me ever since.
“Who’s gonna fuck with you? You’ve got legs like tree trunks!” – Husband of a couple we were having dinner with one night. Talking about our hobbies. I was doing a lot of hockey and martial arts 🤣
“You smell like action figures.” As a nerd it was very high praise
I was at a cafe/gallery when a guy came in and admired my artwork. He commented on it using fuck for every part of speech in the English language! Best compliment I ever got!
I got made fun of all my school years for my smile, so I’m a little insecure about it
Today I got told by a random stranger that I have a beautiful smile ❤️
A homeless man handed me a tulip before saying I have nice birthing hips
I was maybe 16
I got “I wish I had a mum like you”, which just made me feel so floofy. I was conversing with a young man about my son’s age (17) in a shop about video games.
Yeah, a neat guy in college passed me in the hall and inhaled deeply and said “Chloe!” He recognized my perfume!
Apparently I have a great nose. It stuck with me because everyone compliments my eyes, like duh, low hanging fruit. But this guy went straight to my nose and I’ll always remember that.
A lady walked up to me in the grocery store and said, “That’s it! That’s your color! You need to wear that color every single day!” I was wearing a random windbreaker I picked up vacationing in Mazatlan. It was hot pink. What a sweet lady.
I was standing outside a tea shop (ordered a tea) scrolling away in my phone, waiting for my friends to come. The waitress noticed me many times I believe. She came outside to deliver the tea and started asking me “what is this treatment you have done on your hair, it is not the regular treatments many women do, something else right?” I have a natural straight and shiny hair which I got from my dad’s genes 🙂 I told her I didn’t do anything and that it’s my natural hair, she was pleasantly surprised and told me I am so lucky and that my hair is so beautiful 😌💖 I get a lot of random compliment for my hair 🙂 and I thank gods and my dad’s genes for it 🫢
I was on a date with my now husband and as we were leaving the restaurant, an older woman stopped me and told me I had a great laugh and I sounded really happy. I was. It was nice.
While hiking at a foreign land with my boyfriend, I had this 5 y/o local girl looking at me from behind the shed and told me, “you are so beautiful”❤️
I could not reply as she ran away right after, but I’d never forget that…
I’d be a good father, I look like a dad
I was told I have the charm and personality of a stand up comedian. I’ve actually been told that twice by two different people years apart and it actually makes me feel so good and happy.
I was told on two separate occasions by two different people that my parents did a good job with me. That’s way better than being complimented on your looks.
I have some…
“You’re like poetry in motion”
My mother and I drove up to Walmart one day and for some reason we parked by the curb in front of the store (I think it was to get something out of the trunk to return to the store). A clerk was outside and I wasn’t really paying attention to him at first. He walked over to help, and once we got whatever was out of the trunk, he turned to me and said “you’re beautiful”. Totally caught me off guard and made my day. Was not expecting that.
Was at the bar during one of many nights and I was sitting on a bar stool. Was hanging out with people I knew and in heavy conversation with the bartender. All of the sudden, I feel my stool being pulled to my left side and this good looking guy is in my face. Told me I was beautiful and had beautiful hair. Was unexpected.
Everyone’s got a crush on you.
One of my coworkers told me “when I grow up I wanna be just like u” lol
When i worked as a cashier a customer told me i shine when i smile and another told me i am a beautiful girl, i don’t think i’ll ever forget that ❤️
Among those typical customers there are some nice ones 😁
The only compliment i have ever gotten was when a girl in my class in high school told me randomly that she liked my hair. She has never talked with me again
My former best friend paid me a backhanded compliment. She told me that even though I was really intelligent that she liked me anyway. Her other friends didn’t really trust me though.
I just took it as a positive compliment.
My step-mother who was never nice or kind to me at all once wrote in a birthday card to me “all grown up and very conscientious”. To this day I still don’t know why she decided to give me a crumb of affection but here we are.
The one that stuck with me was from my 12th grade English teacher whom I had a huge crush on. He told me my eyes were so pretty that all I had to do to make people do what I wanted them to do was to smile and bat my lashes at them. I know it sounds sexist now, but he was a good guy and this was 35 years ago. I think he was just trying to make my day.
Oh, I just remembered another: I was not a well liked kid. I was bullied. I was sensitive, fat, and neurodivergent, so you can imagine. One day I was walking to my bus stop when a crowd of kids ran over to me. I heard them saying “Let’s ask fauxfurgopher, she’ll know! Yeah, she’s really smart, I’m sure she knows!” These were not people who liked me. I don’t even remember what question they asked me, but I recall that I did know the answer and I settled their disagreement. I kept thinking “Wow… they think I’m smart.”
My aunt (who hated me) told me that I am the most resilient and spicy child she ever knew. I was about 10 years old at the time.
One ex told me I am the smartest but also the most stupid person he knows. Wasn’t meant to be a compliment, but I still loved it.
Another ex told me I have to be totally crazy to still be balanced and sane, wasn’t meant as a compliment, he was serious about it. It still warmed my heart.
“Mommy, can we sing a song together, because I am sad?”. Kids are just the best. We make up songs about what is troubling us, and this has actually been an excellent way to help the kids deal with their big feelings.
It’s a pretty normal compliment but while in the ambulance after a motorcycle accident one of the EMTs told me I have very pretty eyes. I was in shock and that is one of my clearest memories from that event…
