When people say ‘why does everyone hate x or whatever’ and there’s no evidence of it and instead of people saying that they answer the question saying ‘because y’
That someone can comment something so outlandish and obviously untrue, but is left wing, and gets 100+ upvotes. But then someone who dares to say something centrist or right wing and they get downvoted to oblivion.
I remember seeing a political shitfight in the comments of a post a few years ago and I literally said “isn’t it sad how you’s are all both saying completely untrue things about each other and are so easily divided”, and it got like 110 downvotes.
The posts saying “Posted on a burner account because my whole family follows my reddit.” I don’t know of anyone in my friend or family group that frequents Reddit.
Similarly when you see both sides of the same situation posted. Between that and the “Burner” posts it feels like a fabricated tactic to make the app feel more mainstream and popular than it is.
People who try to start arguments about subjective opinions.
Just… enjoy whatever you enjoy, and accept that not everyone is going to enjoy the same things. That’s okay. It’s not a personal attack. You don’t need to defend your honor. Just move on.
When people jump in to answer a question that’s been answered 20 times. If the top upvoted response is the actual answer, you don’t need to respond if all you are going to do is answer with the same thing.
When people feel the need to participate in a thread that has nothing to do with them “Why don’t you do X single men?” A: “Because my wife wouldn’t like it” (note: it wasn’t funny the first time, it def isn’t funny to read the same stupid comment 40 times in the same thread)
When people answer questions they don’t know the answer to. My lord “I think X” when X is wrong 90% of the time. If your response includes “I think” then you don’t actually know and just don’t answer.
When people post questions that are so easily google’able they could get the answer in four seconds themselves.
When someone asks “what is this thing?” in a sub specifically for identifying that type of thing, and half the comments are berating them for not using Google.
People doing Tiktok-style self censorship, e.g. corn, unalived, seggz, graped, n3m, etc. Reddit is pretty hands-off when it comes to profanity, explicit language, and talk of violence, I assure you you don’t need to do that. No one on Reddit is getting paid to be here, so it’s not like you can use monetisation as an excuse.
Seemingly non political subs being overrun with political posts and comments. I see this a lot in state subs. And while I love talking about my state’s politics, I also like talking about my state regarding non-political stuff too. If there’s so much interest in political talk, set up a separate sub for politics. Otherwise it becomes 90% political posts and 100% of the comments will have political arguments.
And it’s not like I disagree with a lot of what people are saying (although the tone is stupid most of the time but that’s just the internet), but I don’t care if I’m talking to a conservative person about the best trout stream in Northeast Iowa. And it’s a good way to connect with someone and share similar interests before hating each other behind keyboards.
On the flip side, overly controlling mods who like to remove “low-effort” posts. Especially when there’s like 8 comments on the post already. Then removed as low effort. What the fuck? Obviously people were interested in the post. Let them talk.
Also mods/communities that rage on newcomers for posting questions before reading the wiki. Especially an advice subreddit lol. What the fuck do you want people to post about then? Yes, the question’s been asked a bunch of times. But that’s what we’re here for. Pushing all newcomers to megathreads, sidebars, and the wikis spooks them out of posting and kills the sub.
People not answering your question and arguing about some bullshit, nitpicking everything you said. I once said (another acc) i had an ed. And people told me to stop focusing on plastic surgery cause i need therapy and not that but i have a chronic ed that has nothing to do with it. And I also was at therapy. Just tell me the information about plastic surgery or stfu.
Or like when others say “I want to get a liposuction, what’s the procedure like” – No just go to the gym. WHO ASKED?!!!!
Edit: I didn’t notice this was ask men, I hope women can answer here too?
How nasty people can be and how obsessed with downvoting they are, even things that are stupid to even vote on.
Yes some comments should be downvoted 100% but like for example if I say “I love corn on the cobb” and people hate it I’ll get downvotes like what.
A lot of repetitive posts; especially in NSFW. I don’t know how many times people are going to ask favorite position, do you masturbate, do you like this and that, several times per day. Can we just use the search button and add your two cents to a post already made? 🥲
I have no idea why, but it annoys me so much, the “I’ll start”. Like you aren’t trying to start a conversation. You just wanted to announce some random thought in your head and have us all read it.
“My experience differs from yours.” As though it’s an absolute counterpoint to something rather subjective that multiple people are relating on.
Blatant projection in a very narrow context. AITA posts can be a hotbed for this, any unexplained detail brings out assumptions, many of which are minimally if at all plausible, yet people will pile on.
In general, any comment or post that betrays a total lack of any self-critical analysis. Everyone but me is a problem type stuff.
Make a generalization about men, people are full of support and understanding.
Make a generalization about women, people lose their shit and absolutely have to remind you that making generalizations is bad and wrong.
The fact that everyone seemingly shares the same opinions on everything and god forbid you share your opinion when the post was asking and now everyone is attacking you.

idk if this is a pet peeve but why does everyone type so seriously (maybe i’m missing something IDK)
When you make a post that’s obviously generalizing but someone replies taking umbrage that what you said doesn’t apply to their personal situation.
The mods.
When OP’s comment way too much on their own thread.
When people say ‘why does everyone hate x or whatever’ and there’s no evidence of it and instead of people saying that they answer the question saying ‘because y’
“The older the account, the more valid/correct the opinion.”
Which is hilarious, because I’m pretty sure you can’t get more ad hom than that.

People become experts on everything, and everyone is a ‘narcissistic gaslighter’ if they disagree or they’re ‘projecting’.

“whoa what’s with all the negativity?” “Man the comments are a minefield.” “Ignore the negative comments.”
Always said on posts with on like 3 or 5 negative comments out of 100+.
Banning people from subs for having a post history in another sub.
Long term bans in general.
The lack of using emojis for tone purposes.
Some mods on other subreddits are super quick to permaban, no warning or anything and often without violating any stated rules for the sub
People who try to start arguments about subjective opinions.

I truly don’t understand it.
Scientology hate bandwagon. Every religion has their own space guys. Why is one weirder than the other?

Downvoting based on disagreement. More prominent in some subs than others.
When you give an opinion you can get attacked even though the og post was asking for an opinion
Trying to get the top comment by being funny instead of giving a real answer to a real question
The over policing of comments and how easily people get butt hurt

When someone posts a lengthy well-thought out criticism of a TV show or video game, and the top comment is:
“I am enjoying it”
Admins blocking your posts and banning you because they don’t agree with your opinion.
The “that guy’s dead wife” comments. 🙄
Gatekeeping and snobbery. I posted a question on one fan sub and got downvoted to hell because ‘it was literally in the movie’.
Apologies my knowledge isn’t as encyclopaedic as yours.
Mfs really don’t know how to search. This is just bootleg ChatGPT to people
One thing I always hated about Reddit…all the damn bots!

“My partner did this-”
Literally everyone: 🗣 LEAVE THEM

“This”
People responding with literally zero input. I don’t mean that it’s not helpful to you. I mean it adds literally nothing.
“Guys who fish, what time of day do you like to go out on the lake to fish?”
“I don’t fish, so there isn’t a time I go out.”
WHY? Why the fuck did you feel that you needed to comment on that particular question????
Perfectly legitimate opinions being mass downvoted and/or commenters being treated like monsters because it hurts people in the feelies
How nasty people can be and how obsessed with downvoting they are, even things that are stupid to even vote on.

I have no idea why, but it annoys me so much, the “I’ll start”. Like you aren’t trying to start a conversation. You just wanted to announce some random thought in your head and have us all read it.
Sharing your lived experience only to have someone completely gaslight you lol
The censorship, especially if your views don’t fit a very specific socio economic/political agenda
Like good luck being a normal person and having that kinda convo
Misuse of mod power
People who live life in single-player mode.
Variations include:
“My experience differs from yours.” As though it’s an absolute counterpoint to something rather subjective that multiple people are relating on.

How negative people are. I hope this isn’t true, but what I’ve seen a lot of reddit users hate their life in the real world.
Make a generalization about men, people are full of support and understanding.
Make a generalization about women, people lose their shit and absolutely have to remind you that making generalizations is bad and wrong.
I don’t like people who are negative about everything but constantly contradict themself in the same post.
Negative people are right.
See what I mean? 🤔😂😂
A lot of Reddit seems to be young people practicing their fiction writing.
The fact that everyone seemingly shares the same opinions on everything and god forbid you share your opinion when the post was asking and now everyone is attacking you.
People ask questions to everyday people expecting some sort of robotic answer completely free of bias or emotion.
OP: Hey Reddit, why does <some issue, event, or human behavior> happen?
Me: In my experience as a husband/father/older man, it happens because <long answer based on decades of life experience>.
OP: Um, that’s aNeCdoTaL not scientific!! Where’s the data!? Has this been peer-reviewed!? Do you have an advanced degree in this!?
