I’m trying to put together a retirement gift for my wife, decades in the making. She teaches kindergarten, and every year her former students graduate from high school, I try to track them down and get a short video tribute to her in their words.
It’s been hit or miss over the years, but I hope to have one hell of a video to show everyone at her retirement party if I can pull it off without her ever finding out.

Teaching is her life. She cries her eyes out at the end of the school year because she loves each and every one of those kids. She is truly in of a kind, and she inspires me every day.
My husband does stuff that makes my life easier, like being the one to take the dog for a walk before we both go to work. It’s so much easier for me to not have to change out of PJs and into leisure clothes and then come back inside and change a second time into business casual (which is often skirts/dresses and heels). He can wear sneakers and jeans to work so he just puts that on and takes her for her walk.
If a woman I’m seeing comments that she likes something I do or wear, I start making an effort to do or wear that for/around her more and better.
For example, this woman I’m seeing mentioned she likes the way I smell and mentioned she particularly liked an outfit I was wearing one day. I make a concerted effort to replicate my routine that day (particular cologne, hair product, and beard oil) and I go out of my way to wear similar outfits (tight jean-cut pants, button-up shirt with no undershirt and the top buttons undone).
He brings me coffee every morning and puts it on my nightstand, but he doesn’t wake me. He puts it in like a yeti cup so it will stay warm until I wake up on my own.
Not exactly gender-specific, so I apologize if my answer doesn’t qualify.
It’s little things mostly.
If we ordered food and she enjoys mine more, it will be “not to my liking” for some reason, so we can switch (doesn’t happen a lot though, unfortunately we enjoy vastly different tastes). Same way I’ll be stuffed when she ends up still being hungry after finishing her meal so she can snack on my fries or whatnot.
During the years she was an active gaming streamer, I’d always make sure her “ask me” section harbored some interesting questions when there was little activity from viewers for a bit.
She loves bird watching and set up a feeder with a camera. It took a while until the birds actually found it and she would be hoping to watch one so much for the first few days, I eventually crafted a paper bird on a stick and snuck up to the camera to let it “feed” there. Not exactly “private”, but she appreciated the laugh. 🙂
When she’s at work and I’m free, I’ll find a reason to “be in the neighbourhood by chance”, so I can swap in for her and give her a little breather (that’s win win, because both of us “recharge” a lot whenever we’re together, just a few hours of proximity can absolutely turn around a bad day).
Obviously, those are very little things. I’m mostly here to learn what other ideas everyone comes up with.
Edit: Tiny notes can also go a long way. She’s still carrying around some little letters I leave in her purse or places she will look at eventually with her. It’s mostly little reminders of why she’s amazing and how much she is loved, longer ones may be folded papers saying “read when day bad” or something along those lines. I’ve started doing this more when I noticed how much she cherishes them.
I used to drop little notes in her furniture and in the kitchen cabinets. Each one had compliments and mushy stuff in them (im not all that much into saying it out loud). She kept bringing them up to me when she found them. Eventually, she realized I hid 1 every time I came over and started searching for it as soon as I left.

My girlfriend is Spanish and I’m British. And I’m secretly learning Spanish. A few months ago, we were with her family and I had to pretend I didn’t understand anything so she was still translating for me. I was holding out until we get married but I’m not sure if I’ll make it 😭
