Before I had kids (15 years ago!) I used to enjoy running. In recent years the idea of a run is almost laughable. I’ve been firmly in the camp of “if you see me running something is very wrong.”
Recently I decided I wanted to be more active so I started walking quite a bit. I liked how it made me feel and I could feel myself getting stronger so I tried running again. It did not go well at first but it’s getting a little better each time and it feels SO good to do something that I can’t pay for, I can’t rush through, I just have to put in the effort, I can’t really explain it. It’s just so rewarding to me.
Finally finally finally decided to learn how to bake bread. All my life I’ve been telling myself that it was too hard and I wouldn’t be good at it and it would take too much time and kneading is so much work and is so messy. Well, come to find out that my sister and my mother and my baker friend were right (surprise…) and there are plenty of yeasted no-knead bread recipes that are SO easy and dangerously delicious and I haven’t bought bread now for a few months and once a week my apartment smells AMAZING when I bake a loaf. 🙂
I read books to preschoolers (4-5 years old) at a local school through a program that’s a partnership between the public library and local school district.
Playing the Kalimba. I used to play the piano as a kid, but I’ve never created music or been able to fathom how on earth people do it. But the Kalimba makes intuitive playing easy and it’s opening a whole new world to me.
Not new so much as "increased tenfold" but fossil/rock/artifact hunting. It’s more accessible than I had really realized and there are so many neat little things you can find laying around. Reading a lot of feminist nonfiction.
Taking language lessons to learn the language of my birth country. Halfway through the year going to said country with a group of other people who are taking the same class.

Traveling.
The last 3 years- I have been able to afford more trips so it’s exciting to get to go places I have wanted to visit!
Setting boundaries with my family!!!!
Listen- they aren’t terrible, but no one has a fucking boundary. I’m holding strong and enjoying the relief!
journaling everyday!
