What’s something that you buy cheap instead of expensive/quality that you SHOULD stick with the cheap version?

I worked in automotive parts sourcing for a long time. Buying “OEM parts only” is an example of products that are not worth the premium most of the time.

In fact, so many parts are the same as OEM with the label changed. Bearings are produced by 3 manufacturing suppliers in the world for the US. and have a cross reference number on them that make them practically universal (no matter the brand).

I have an idea in my head that things have a top limit of what they can cost. T.Shirts for example, £15-£20 gets you a decent t.Shirt that lasts well and is comfortable. There cannae possibly be a t.shirt that costs £300 just because some fanny says it’s designer.

Clothes for little kids. They’re going to cover them in dirt and grass stains, dump food and drink on them, and then outgrow them in six months.

Printer ink. Seems like the same shit between the off brands

For me it’s silverware, plates/bowls, laundry clamps and gym clothes. I also never go for expensive tshirts or towels.

90% of tools. You don’t need a 600$ Snap-On toolbox and accessories if you’re changing your oil and hanging a painting once every 6 months.

Get the cheap shit, and if it breaks, that means you use it enough for the nice version. Had the same set of 80$ tools for 5 years and have only swapped 2-3 tools.

Medication, as the generic brand has the same medical formula as the branded.
Save your bank; those pharma make enough $ already.

I’ve been buying the store brand aspirin or anything in the supermarket that’s a large difference in price between name brand and store brand. It’s the same thing why pay for a label?

Unless your doctor has a specific reason for wanting you to take the name brand version, generic pharmaceuticals.

Depends on what you call cheap. Kitchen knives should not cost 150$, skillets should not cost 200+, microwaves, electric heaters, pc cases, pillow covers, towels, usb hubs. All of the hobby items if you are early in that hobby.
