I’ve been dealing with a lot lately and started looking into online therapy platforms, but the amount of options is honestly overwhelming. Every site markets itself as “the best,” and I’ve even seen some mixed opinions and controversy around a few of them. What I really want is feedback from people who have actually used these services. The right therapist could make a huge difference, but I don’t want to throw money or time at something that isn’t worth it.
For those of you who’ve tried online therapy, which platforms actually gave you real value and felt worthwhile? And which ones ended up being disappointing or just tried to upsell without offering much in return?
Here’s what matters to me:
- Being able to talk with a licensed professional, not canned responses or bots
- Straightforward and transparent pricing
- Affordable enough to continue consistently
- Sessions that feel personal and genuinely helpful
If you’ve been through it, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, both the good and the bad.

BetterHelp was okay for me. The first two matches were awful, clearly just phoning it in, but the third therapist actually cared. It took a month of frustration to find them though, so don’t expect it to work perfectly from day one.
I’m a HUGE advocate for therapy- various members of my family have used betterhelp.com to find therapists in our area. (for help with stress, grief counselling, anxiety, cognitive therapy). All the therapists that we’ve used have offered a free 30 minute phone call to discuss what help we’re looking for and to see whether they are the right therapist for you- then you can decide whether you want phone, facetime or in person therapy. In our area it’s normal to pay £40-50 per hour.
I obviously don’t want to pry but I’d really recommend the mindfulness videos on Youtube as a free resource as well- plus Netflix has Headspace guides to sleep and meditation that are fab. Good luck!
This is an ai bot. Probably doing advertising for one of these companies.
