I decided to go for a run 12 years ago. An intoxicated driver put me into an 11.5 day coma in the ICU. Traumatic Brain injury, broken sternum, skull, shoulder, etc. I haven’t been able to taste or smell a thing in 12+ yrs. Kinda messed up the whole momentum of my life up until that point as well as causing new, additional stress & heartache.

I discovered music composition therapy while in recovery though. I gave many years to writing music since. If you’re interested, the album 9fm, by artist 9fm is where that decision eventually led me. Silver lining, I guess.

Decided the road I was riding my motorcycle down was “too dangerous” (grooved pavement) and turned around “to be safe.” 5 minutes later: t-boned by a car, broken femur, cracked ribs, life-flighted to the hospital, permanent damage to the left side of my body. (It didn’t wreck my life, but my hip still hurts 16 years later).

Decided to pledge a professional business fraternity. Made me wanna unalive myself. I was bullied, ostracized, my grades plummeted and never recovered, my relationship with my family suffered. I de-pledged just before the end and walked away. It’s one of my proudest moments, and most valuable lessons I learned in college.

For me it was the new innistrad set and reading the stories for it and reading Thalias story and getting into the character for the first time, I read all of her stories and I fell in love with her, the part in Blessing of Blood where she’s about to get her hand cut off made me upset, I realized that, even though I don’t normally care about the shitty MTG characters, I cared about her. I understand why Odric did what he did. I would have sacrificed myself for Thalia too. I still dream about her a year later. I’ve tried to stop but I can’t help it, I really love her and I wish so badly I could go to innistrad and marry her, even though she would never want to be with me. It’s so stupid but I felt pain in my chest for a while from how badly I wanted to be with her. So because of this, around 4 months after these feelings began, I stopped playing Magic because playing it just made me feel like a loser. I started working out, got some gainz but I stopped because I realized it was just deluding me into thinking I’d be good enough for her. Im almost 32 and I’ll probably never be able to enjoy Magic aagin.

On the day of my university graduation, after the ceremony instead of going back to the hotel my parents were staying at (I studied abroad) I decided to hang out with friends and waste time taking endless grad photos all around the campus. I had just gotten a new phone so I was the designated photographer. Not wanting to say no to anyone I got into a frenzy of taking photos for everyone else and got so distracted that someone stole my backpack that I kept on the ground a few feet away from me. It had a camera, all my student cards, my old phone which I hadn’t yet backed up to the new phone, metro card, and several other valuables. The rest of the day, which should have been one of my happiest days, was spent at the police station as they tried to help me find my bag while I was trying to not break down. Only one of the people I was taking photos for stayed with me. Luckily after several hours the police actually managed to locate the thief through CCTV. It was an extremely rare feat and perhaps just one stroke of good luck for me cause that thief happened to be within the campus premises during the time he was located.

Bought a brand new house in 2005 in a place we REALLY didn’t want to live(Texas)… 2 years later I Got my job to move me to a better place, and could not sell my house because real estate crashed so I decided to rent it out, because being a scumbag landlord is the new American dream.

Renters wrecked the yard, fence, some walls, and all the floors in the entire house, didn’t pay rent for a few months.

We moved back to Texas into our now 3 year-old trashed house because we just couldn’t afford to be scumbag landlords. It took us 6 years and lots of minimum budget DIY work to get to where we could sell it, and we brought like $4000 cash to the closing table. When we finally got rid of that house and moved to a better location, my entire retirement (13 years of 401k contributions) was wiped out paying for everything.

I knew I had to pay tax on the money I took out and accounted for it, but I didn’t account for the fact that because I took money out of the retirement account, my income was too high to get child tax credits for our 4 kids (8,000 in tax credits) and we ended up paying the IRS off over the next few years.

All is well now, for the most part but my retirement account is still lower than it was 12 years ago. I live in a great place and own a good home, but damn, had I waited 2 years to buy a house, or not moved cross country, or even just let my old house go into foreclosure things might be even better right now.

Called 911 on neighbors for a very violent physical altercation outside that involved them driving on sidewalks trying to hit each other with cars amongst other things. Ended up getting a subpoena from that 911 call and had to testify in front of them because of their subsequent arrests. I found out in court they ended up being gang bangers involved with the Bloods, both had 15+ felony arrests from years prior with two attempted murder charges. For a year we feared retaliation shootings into our home and has several suspicious cars that used to just sit outside. To this day I have no clue how they were approved to rent the house out because I live in an HOA with $600,000 homes.

    Getting into a hammock.

It had been outside for a while on our porch and the elements really took their toll on it without us realizing. I had only been laying in it for a few minutes when it ripped beneath me and I ended up shattering my L1.

This happened about two years ago when I was 25, freshly into a new job in my very physically demanding field of work, and I had to come to a complete stop. I’ll most likely never be able to work in the industry in full capacity, but I’m doing my best to pivot and make it work.
