What’s the point?

r/

I’m not suicidal by any means. But we’re all going to die anyway. And while we’re here, we must alleviate our suffering by working so that we aren’t left hungry and cold, no shelter. So because I choose to stay alive, I have to do all this dumb crap that makes life redundant. Commuting, working, working commuting.

As Creed Branton said, “If I can’t scuba, what has all this been about?” I don’t think I’m ever going to get to scuba. But I don’t want to die. So I embrace mild misery in order to stay away from complete misery.

Oh well.

Are you enjoying the work and the commute? Is there a different job you would rather do in order to work for a living? If you have a hobby or interest you would rather spend your time doing, find a way to monetize that. Can you find or create a job doing what you love where the money follows? If you don’t love what you are doing, why not do something else with your time? The point is finding the beauty in the everyday. A narcissist will have kids and try to leave a “legacy”. The delusional will fear death and create a meaning to life like doing good deeds to somehow cheat death with a pleasant afterlife.

The realistic view I feel is you grow up finish school, get a job, work it until you physically are unable and spend a few years relaxing and enjoying life before the inevitable end.

The magic is trying to squeeze excitement and new experiences in the short time we have before turning back to dust. These small moments are all we have and should be enjoyed as much as possible.
