Remembered I had mentioned I liked a particular seasonal fruit months earlier, and for no reason surprised me with some as a gift when they appeared in stores.
Even though I did not know her, I cold approached the woman that would later be my wife, to ask her out. It was an unusual approach because she is hearing impaired. I learned barely enough ASL to ask her out, but I was fumbling through it badly and was getting embarrassed and was about to leave. Then, in a thick “deaf voice” she said, “it’s okay. I read lips, too.” So that’s how we began. She was sooooo patient with me as I learned to communicate with her. – I met her family a few weeks later. Her older sister took me aside and in a curious tone, asked me, “When did she start talking to you?” I told her, from the very moment we met. Sister made a shocked face and said that due to an overbearing vocal coach when she was younger and childhood teasing over her deaf voice, she’s very shy about it and does not verbaly speak to people unless they are extremely close to her and she trusts them. I had no idea. We talked non-stop and she even laughed along with me. That’s it. That’s the story.
This was the summer of the pokemon go craze started. We got really into it but I broke my leg biking and couldn’t walk around for a bit. She somehow bought a working Nintendo 64 and a copy of pokemon stadium and we played in front of the tv together like a couple of kids. She did all that just to spend time with me and I still think about it.
Are we talking about significant other? Collegues? Friends? Strangers?
Because its not fair comparing them to your significant other as she will obviously try her hardest.
For me its one time I complained about how everyone sucks at spotting on the bench press in my gym.
So she.. decided to join the gym and learn how to workout and how to spot me.
She would wake up at 04:30 to go with me to the gym as I would get there at 06:00. When she could have slept a few more hours.
She meal preps for me sometimes and always makes the food really delicious.
She’s great, I attribute a lot of my fitness progress to her.
Trying to understand me and help me to understand myself better at the same time. It feels so soothing in my mind when she just untangled my poorly wired brain and stop the constant overthinking of things. Man do I miss that girl, but hey I’m forever grateful for that experience.
