It suddenly occurred to me while watching a Tate McRae video, that this is such a common thing in music videos and stage performances. There will be the pop star or rapper, plus backing dancers. They will all be dressed in revealing clothes with heels on. Then they will be strutting around with a sassy or angry face? What the heck is going on lol. Why is this such a typical thing? Like “I’m sexy and I’m so angry too” what?

The Taming of the Shrew.
Misogyny as old as time.
I have nothing to back this up BUT my initial assumption is that, prior to the rise of the MTV star, supermodels/runway models were THE standard of beauty and desirability. Models have a contraposto walk to draw attention to the movement of the clothing on the body and they have to hold a consistent expression for the sake of photographing consistently (its much easiest to hold a vacant or negative expression on your face consistently than to hold a genuine smile consistently without looking fake) I suspect that aesthetic that arose from 80s and 90s fashion media has translated to parts of the music industry in much the same way that work wear and blue collar culture became a part of grunge and strip club culture worked its way into hip hop.
RIght now, specifically? Probably chasing that sweet Beyoncé cash after the put a ring on it video was so popular
Beautiful women who dress provocatively are often seen by men as being angry and sassy. Men have this view of these women because they approach these women and get blown off. These women blow off the men because they are just trying to live their life.
