When did skinny jeans overtake bootcut jeans in popularity?

r/

I’m trying to pinpoint when skinny jeans became more popular than bootcut jeans. Did this shift happen around:

  • 2005–2008
  • 2009–2012
  • 2013–2016
  • 2017 or later

Any examples of when you first noticed the change?

Late 2004-2005 at least here in California. When emo and hardcore started becoming mainstream.

Punk/metal world it never went out of style really, if worn properly

The kinda femme leaning genre of hardcore called emo, style wise was know for guys wearing tight girls pants and this started early 2000s. Right along with white belts and tight t-shirts. Eventually this all made its way into mainstream fashion slowly.
