Uh…never. I just wear what I like and feel comfortable in. And if myself and someone older or younger are wearing the same thing, well great minds think alike!
Depanding on your age your skintone and hair can changes, so the colour pallet that complements you might change.
That does not mean your style has to change.
Never. I wear what I want to. The same goes for my hair, I will keep it long for the rest of my life despite people telling me long hair on older women looks bad.
I’m 36, never. I’ll dress how I feel like dressing because that is how I feel and that makes me happy. Everyone else’s opinions about that does not matter to me because it does not affect my life.
There are two parts to this. One is to stop caring what people think and wear what feels comfortable. The other is to stop caring what people think and wear what makes you feel good.
You can do both. Some days I’ll dress in the most unflattering (to men) but comfortable clothing for me. Some days I’ll dress in the most unflattering (to men) but most fire clothing for me. And when the planets align, those are the same thing.
I’m in my late 40s and I wear shorter skirts now than I did in my 20s. There was a lot of stuff I didn’t have the confidence to wear back in the day, but I do know. My hair is still bright red even though it’s actually completely gray now. I’m sure a lot of people think I don’t ‘dress my age’, but screw them. I’m the one who has to wear it, so I’m going to wear what feels good to me. Not some made up idea of what a middle ages woman is supposed to wear.
The other comments make a great point, but to answer the question:
I started dressing more “my age” when I started working with kids in my last year of school, looking back. As I got older (and finances improved), I was able to dress nicer. I started healing from issues from when I was younger and took better care of myself in general. Once I had kids and looked like it, I took a self-esteem hit and definitely don’t let it all hang out anymore. I’ve always been uncomfortable with my middle showing or when wearing anything really short.
I’m 36 now. A typical outfit for me is a skirt (and a half slip because static is bullshit) below the knee and a nice tee, maybe a cardigan as it gets cooler.
Comfort is key. If you are more comfy being flashy, go for it. If you’re more laid back, God for that then.
I dress how I want and don’t ever think should I be wearing this at my age. That sound just like another manipulative way for society to judge us and I’m not playing into that mindset.
I’m in my late 20s, I feel like I’m gradually dressing more mature for comfort and depending on what I’m doing/where I’m going. Since I don’t really do nightlife anymore, I don’t wear club clothes like I used to lol.
I don’t think I ever have or will. My mother dressed me as a mid 90’s mom when I was 11 and 12, in the 90’s! Right now, at 42, I want to dress like a teenager from the late 90’s early 2000’s. Haha.
My brother is 21 and he dresses like Mr Rogers. My cousin is 39 and recently wore a leopard printed mini dress, skin tight, with 8 inch spikey rave heels to our grandmas funeral. I’m not sure the rules apply anymore
When I was 20 I dressed like I was 50. Too much baggage from when I was a teenager in the Mormon church — nothing cut below my collarbones or exposing my shoulders, nothing form-fitting, sleeves always past my elbows, dresses (never pants) that went down to my ankles.
Eventually (with therapy) I got past the body shaming and started dressing for comfort rather than modesty.
Never!!! I buy or make my own clothes which means I wear what I like. I haven’t owned a bra in 10 years because I don’t like them. That’s the choice I made for myself. Even at my age a lot of my dresses look like costumes and that makes me happy. Other people don’t pay my bills they don’t get an opinion about my life.
I am a 36 year old mom of 2 kids and 3 step kids. I wear short ass shorts every single day with a tight-fitting tank top. You do you girl. Life is too short to care about a goddamn thing someone else thinks.
I’ll be dead before anyone makes me “dress my age”. I’ll be 80 and still rocking skinny jeans and mini skirts. If they don’t like it then they don’t have to look at me 🤷♀️
When I started volunteering as a teacher’s aide at my younger sisters’ school in Jordan in 1993 and in 1998, when I worked for a travel agency, which is also a tour operator.
I’ll tell you when that starts happening, lol. I’ve always dressed the way I like, and it rarely coincides with fashion trends or age, only in “a broken clock is right twice a day” way. When clothes that appeal to me are in fashion I but a lot so it will last, otherwise I make my own stuff. Some concessions I have done as I’ve gotten older:
People aren’t consenting to see my old body, so I tend to cover more if I’m going in public, but not always, like if it’s very hot out or I’m going to a sexy party.
I have been favoring comfort over fashion these days, especially if I’m not leaving the house.
I wear a lot more hand-knit and crochet items these days. I will sit on the porch with a blanket on my lap sipping tea using a spinning wheel to make yarn. When neighbors walk by I give them produce from the garden. I tame wild animals. Feeling my crone era and loving it (but I used to do stuff like this as a kid, so it’s more like I’m growing into my inner old woman I’ve always been).
Been wearing messy bun a lot because hair care is too much work.
In conclusion, I’ve always been an old woman and as I get older it starts being more appropriate.
Well I’m almost 50 and I still wear thigh-high black velvet boots with stiletto heels. I’m sure I’ll be the only woman in the nursing home dressed like a prostitute.
Let me assure you that the only reason I got rid of some of my pre-30 mini skirts is because my actual hip bones got wider and now this ass is too fat for them.
I sold them and bought new miniskirts for my 30+ ass.
I’m almost 40 and still don’t – I tried to for a while as I realised going towards 40 I shouldn’t be wearing cartoonish T-shirts anymore but then I gave up and went back to wearing them as they make me happy and it’s not hurting anyone.
I am a firm believer that “dress your age” really means “dress for your lifestyle”, which tends to shift with age. I started doing this when I was in my mid-20s and haven’t looked back, but my style has shifted in between those years.
Idk I’m 24, and I still like to dress how I did at 17 in skimpy outfits, but I also have buisness casual in my wardrobe now. Sometimes I go out in sweats and a stained t shirt.
Well it was decades ago fir me but I remember my first adult job out of college and being told my faux slacks and socks were not professional! I had them since high school!
I’ll start “dressing my age” the day people stop telling women what they can or should do. I buy clothes that look good on me and what I’m comfortable in. Bonus points if it has usable pockets. How other people feel is not a consideration in the choosing of my wardrobe.
32-33 was when I had decided to move away from tight skimpy dresses to more modest long/flowy ones. Tho it felt like over night my taste/style just changed. Maybe a developed frontal cortex was involved in this decision 😅
gonna be so boring and say about last year when I turned 25 and got an in-office technical job in a male-dominated field. Unfortunately I can’t dress cool at risk of losing credibility. I still have my fun dresses for events and the weekends!
I never gave a crap. And nowadays I’m in leggings and a tee shirt 95% of the time. My motto is “if you’re not paying my wage or having s*x with me why would I care what you think?” So I choose comfort over style unless i feel like dressing up for fun/a special reason.
I am 31. am petite and Asian so always look younger than my age so when I entered the corporate world in my mid twenties, I would dress older to appear older and assert myself as a professional. I mostly choose long clothing and covered up. But I recently realized that I’ve been dressing too old. So now I think I found a balance between looking professional but also expressing myself in creative ways and feel a little sexy. My current job also is not too formal although it’s still a corporate job. And I work in the creative department so it doesn’t have to be as suite and tie vibes.
I have no idea what that even means. I wear what I’m comfortable in. I guess by society’s standards, I should be dressing like the Golden Girls, but that’s just not me
To be honest? Sounds like old religious lady rhetoric. And the answer is never. I’m 35. Still wearing short shorts and short skirts and knee high boots and thigh high stockings and cute bras that are made to be seen a little. My style has definitely changed over the years, but if I’m dressing up for my partner for a date or something, it would be normal to see a short skirt and a good dose of cleavage. My default response would be “mind your business”, spiciness level dependent on how spicy they approach me.
This is like the “beach body” thing. You have a body, you go to the beach, here you have, a beach body.
You have a body, you put on clothes covering the relevant bits and that won’t get you fired from work (while at work), or clothes that you like. And voilà. Dressed for my age as my age is part of me…. But doesn’t define me.
Age is a number. Going to be 62 this month. I wear whatever I feel looks good on me. Wear crop tops with wide pants just like the young ones and get compliments.
not me in my mid 20s reading this while wearing pajamas pants I thrifted in middle school 🥲
oh, and the correct answer is ✨️never✨️. Changing your style over time is totally fine, but only when it’s what you want. If you feel the need to change how you dress purely because other people say you should, that’s not a valid reason.
I view this the same way I view beauty standards or trends in general:
you should never conform purely for the sake of conformity. But on the flip side, anti-conformity is it’s own form of conformity. In either case, your choices are based around the opinions of others, not what you want for yourself, and that’s not the way to live if you want to truly be yourself and be happy.
Non-conformity is the way. You wanna wear mini skirts when you’re 30, 40, 50? Do it! Want to wear a “demure” cardigan or maxi skirt? Do it!
what you wear isn’t as important as why you’re wearing it
When I was 23. My job was very laid-back, but I had been consistently wearing sweatpants and oversized jackets everywhere. I always used a string bag to carry my stuff. I got mistaken as a student sooo much. One day had a moment of realization at work where i just looked down and was like “what the fuck am i wearing?” Started wearing dress pants or at least jeans with a nice top😂
I always dress my age, in that I get dressed and I am of an age.
If what you’re actually asking is “when did you start dressing the way other people think you should dress simply based on what they happen to think is appropriate for the age they think you are?” then the answer is hahahahahahahahahahahaha, what’s it to you? I wear what I like.
I’m 30. Currently in sweatpants and a Pokemon t-shirt. So…never? I wear what’s comfortable & what I enjoy, who cares if I have the wardrobe of a 12-year-old boy?
I had to start toning down my daily wardrobe when I began my career after college, but as I’m nearing 30, I’ve actually been rediscovering my old style again. I dress pretty plain/mature most days, and while that’s fine for my job, I’ve realized that I just don’t feel like me anymore. So lately I’ve been making more of an effort to dress up for social outings—doing my makeup really dramatic with bright colored eyeliner and dark lipstick, breaking out my old choker necklaces, putting my hair up in more exciting styles. I even dyed my hair an acceptable fun color so I can still be a little more myself during work hours.
At this age, sure, there are fewer and fewer situations where continuing to dress like a college student at a day-rager is appropriate, and I’m mindful of that. But at my core, I’m an alt girl from a hippie beach town, so I don’t think I’ll be losing the crop tops, ripped shorts, or green eyeliner until my future children tell me it’s embarrassing—and even then, maybe not.
I’m 48 and I don’t even know what my age “is supposed” to wear. I don’t wear the unstructured flowy artsy linen or big floral usually synthetic stuff that I see marketed toward old women. And I don’t wear spandex maxi dresses with racy cut outs or crop tops. But if I liked those things and thought it would flatter me I 100% would wear them. I am just in jeans and tee shirts most days. They’re for pretty much any age
I mean. I consider ‘dressing my age’ now, in my early 30s, to be ditching oversized hoodies, baggy jeans, and Converses, and starting to dress like a professional, feminine woman who knows what looks good on her body.
Because I believed at a certain point I really needed to start ditching what felt like my teenage/young adult wardrobe, and start looking like a grown-up, and 29/30ish felt like a good time. Now I have a much more stylish wardrobe that’s not just comfies, and I enjoy dressing for the season rather than just dressing for the weather.
If by dress my age you mean dress however I want without someone constantly telling me to cover up, pretty much as soon as I moved out of my parents house
Never will ever. I always wear what I want. When I worked a young guy told me, I hope this isn’t offensive to say but you always put yourself together like a much younger person and it looks so good, I’ve never met anyone like you.
In truth I wear Ming dynasty hanfu but I’m actually not even several hundred years old yet 😔 please don’t tell anyone. I don’t wanna be cringe dressing so far over my age range
Do what?
You dress to make yourself look and feel good. You dress for an occasion. You can dress to impress or dress to relax/chill. Whatever you choose to wear is you, being dressed for your age.
I wear shorts, leggings, jeans, sweats and skirts. I wear my shorts longer in my 60s than I did in my 30’s. I wear a different style of jeans than I did in my 40’s. I don’t wear the crop tops or halters I wore in my teens, but I wear tee shirts and other stylish tops. I wear dresses, but lingerie than I wore years ago.
If you feel comfortable in your clothing, you are dressed for your age.
Never? I don’t really know what that means. And don’t care. I’m in my 40s now and dress almost exclusively jn unisex hoodies or T-shirts and sweatpants. I have no reason or desire to do otherwise. I assume that’s seen as not very grownup to some people, but that’s not my problem.
When I realized, as I walked into the trendier stores I used to shop, that I was the youngest one there. Also, nothing fit past my thighs because I’m not the same size or body shape as my teenage self. Also… I don’t “get” a lot of the styles like I used to. Really was a “I feel old” moment, and I’m only 27 lol
I don’t. It amuses people that I don’t. They end up being fond of me even if some of them are younger than me. I always elicit some sort of fond laugh when I dress my style, which is better than being assumed to be a bitchjust for existing when I dress my age. Weird culture things.
Well, I hit my 40s having spent most of my 30’s in maternity wear, work uniform, or PJs due to covid, and realised I needed to rediscover myself. I no longer wanted to wear the clothes I wore when I was in my 20’s. Even the ones that fit me didn’t reflect who I felt I was.
After my friend forced me to go shopping, I actually put some energy into figuring it out and I like to call my look ‘the wild witch of the woods library’ and I am loving it.
So yes, I think 42 is the perfect age to start dressing like a witch.

What does that even mean?
u dont. u dress in whatever makes you feel the most beautiful and comfortable
I’ve been dressing like Mrs Roper since about 14

I don’t believe in that. I’m almost 50. I wear whatever I want.
Ew no we’re not doing that.. if anything as you get older you care much less what others think and you dress however makes you feel comfortable!
Uh…never. I just wear what I like and feel comfortable in. And if myself and someone older or younger are wearing the same thing, well great minds think alike!
I was dressing like a 50-year-old when I was in my teens. I don’t really know what that means to dress my age.
…I always have been?
Never.
Depanding on your age your skintone and hair can changes, so the colour pallet that complements you might change.
That does not mean your style has to change.
Never! I wear what I want.
I wear whatever tf I want.
Never. I wear what I want to. The same goes for my hair, I will keep it long for the rest of my life despite people telling me long hair on older women looks bad.
I don’t worry about what others think is “age appropriate”. I wear what I want.
I’m 36, never. I’ll dress how I feel like dressing because that is how I feel and that makes me happy. Everyone else’s opinions about that does not matter to me because it does not affect my life.

My 20 year old son once told me, “You look very …corporate…today.” I said well, that’s a nice way to give me an insult.
When I was born? Whatever I am wearing is me dressing my age.
I’m 30 and still wearing graphic tee’s 🫤
I’m in my late 20s, I feel like I’m gradually dressing more mature for comfort and depending on what I’m doing/where I’m going. Since I don’t really do nightlife anymore, I don’t wear club clothes like I used to lol.
As long as I have bee able to dress myself I have never “dressed my age”
I don’t think I ever have or will. My mother dressed me as a mid 90’s mom when I was 11 and 12, in the 90’s! Right now, at 42, I want to dress like a teenager from the late 90’s early 2000’s. Haha.
My brother is 21 and he dresses like Mr Rogers. My cousin is 39 and recently wore a leopard printed mini dress, skin tight, with 8 inch spikey rave heels to our grandmas funeral. I’m not sure the rules apply anymore
I always dress my age
When I was 20 I dressed like I was 50. Too much baggage from when I was a teenager in the Mormon church — nothing cut below my collarbones or exposing my shoulders, nothing form-fitting, sleeves always past my elbows, dresses (never pants) that went down to my ankles.
Eventually (with therapy) I got past the body shaming and started dressing for comfort rather than modesty.

Well, I am 31 now and still enjoy my Vans and hoodies 😂
My thighs are too big to wear mini skirts 😭 please wear one for me ladies!!💀😭
Never. I don’t let misogynist norms dictate how I dress, or any other element of how I live my life. No point.
I love the general consensus of “what? We don’t do that here”
Fuck dressing your age. Dress your body in what feels good TO YOU to wear for YOUR LIFE.
I am a 36 year old mom of 2 kids and 3 step kids. I wear short ass shorts every single day with a tight-fitting tank top. You do you girl. Life is too short to care about a goddamn thing someone else thinks.
Never have. I did and still do wear whatever I want that is appropriate for the environment, location, context, and situation. My age is irrelevant.
Never. I wear what feels comfortable to me per time
Never?
Idk I still dress the same way I did in high school lmao…t-shirts and sweatpants.
I‘m 57 and still don’t own a beige quiltet vest
I’ll be dead before anyone makes me “dress my age”. I’ll be 80 and still rocking skinny jeans and mini skirts. If they don’t like it then they don’t have to look at me 🤷♀️

I stopped worrying about “dressing my age” and just started wearing what makes me feel confident and comfortable.
I’m 41 and have been dressing like Adam Sandler for years 😭
I’m 55. I give not one single flying fuck about “dressing my age”.
“Dressing your age” is on of the stupidest myths ever created
I’m in my 40s and I like non-age appropriate outfits and I don’t care. I dress for me lol
Well I’m almost 50 and I still wear thigh-high black velvet boots with stiletto heels. I’m sure I’ll be the only woman in the nursing home dressed like a prostitute.
Maybe I’ll start when I mentally get to my age…
Im 37 now. Im sure it will happen any day now. Until then I will wear whatever I want and in what I feel confident.

Dressing my age is to dress however I like in the age I’m at. There is no such thing as “dressing your age”.
People telling you that are trying to push false modesty or propriety values onto you.
The only person who should even have an opinion is the person buying the clothes. Is that you? Then buy and wear what you want.
I’m 37 and I’d say I wear what I want. A mini skirt? Sure. Tube top? Absolutely.
It doesn’t matter as long as you’re comfortable. Well, and not indecent, I guess. No one wants to arrested.🤣
I was supposed to do that? I mean my style evolved as I got older but that means I added more accessories.

Nah, we don’t do that. We dress in what makes us comfortable and happy.
Never. I got a job in an industry that lets me be me.
It was a nice compliment.
Tomorrow
I have no idea what a 49yo is “supposed” to wear. I guess it’s whatever I’m wearing at the time.
I’m 21 and wear what I wished I had at 13. (Influences: punk, metalhead, plur)
In truth I wear Ming dynasty hanfu but I’m actually not even several hundred years old yet 😔 please don’t tell anyone. I don’t wanna be cringe dressing so far over my age range
I refuse
I haven’t.
Never, and I’m 46.
I’m mid 40s and I still wear ripped jeans, combat boots, and a vest full of chains and patches. So…never?
I was dressing like an adult as a kid, and now I dress like I live in the past so I always kinda didn’t
I don’t dress my age, I dress for work. Outside of that, I’m pushing 30 and wearing mini skirts and crop tops. I’m the hottest I’ve ever been!
I haven’t. I will wear what I want regardless of my age. I literally just said this to a salesperson in a clothing store today.
I dress according to my personality and the weather, not my age.
Im old and still wearing tight jeans and whatever top catches my fancy. Spikey hair too
Not sure what that means. I dress for comfort not to impress.
Never? I don’t really know what that means. And don’t care. I’m in my 40s now and dress almost exclusively jn unisex hoodies or T-shirts and sweatpants. I have no reason or desire to do otherwise. I assume that’s seen as not very grownup to some people, but that’s not my problem.
The only thing I won’t wear is the weight of others opinions of what I look like. Life is short, sometimes my dresses are too.
When I realized, as I walked into the trendier stores I used to shop, that I was the youngest one there. Also, nothing fit past my thighs because I’m not the same size or body shape as my teenage self. Also… I don’t “get” a lot of the styles like I used to. Really was a “I feel old” moment, and I’m only 27 lol
never
I am 56 and wear chucks, shorts, tshirt and a baseball hat. Not sure what I am supposed to dress like
I don’t still. I’m in my 50s and still
wear shorts or jeans and band t-shirts or snarky t-shirts most of the time.
After my friend forced me to go shopping, I actually put some energy into figuring it out and I like to call my look ‘the wild witch of the
woodslibrary’ and I am loving it.So yes, I think 42 is the perfect age to start dressing like a witch.
