When I get pulled over, does the cop know I have a record?

r/

When the cop runs my plate, does it automatically tell him about my (non violent felony) record? If not, are they capable of looking it up on the spot, and do they do it?

If no to both, I’m assuming they do see my record after they take my license back to their car, right?

    Generally, yes.

I see traffic history every time. If I wanted other history I could get that also, but I don’t always.

Not everything. Just a driving record.

Just stopping your car doesn’t give criminal history or that kind of thing. Running your name gives more information.

All out of state traffic tickets will automatically show up ?
Let’s say I have a stop sign ticket in New York but got stopped in California

All departments will have different information readily available. I can’t see drivers or criminal history on my end. I can’t even see if you have a CCL. Some departments can see all of that.

Not in OR. By name or number, driving record and wants… no real history

Like others have said it differs agency to agency. I work for a city and I can see any history my agency or other agency’s that have we an agreement to share information with, if we’ve contacts with you. Tickets, criminal, really any call for service that your name has been run out on. Other than that it will show any law Enforcment wants for you and your current license status or other statuses such as sex registrant, arson registrant, mental health preclusion, if your a missing person, CCW, probation/parole status and any firearms registered to your name.

Yes, if the car is yours and you were arrested in the jurisdiction

I’m guessing this is agency dependant, but for us if we run your information all we get is driving status and warrants if any. If I want your criminal record I have to look that up separately.

Depends on state and agency. Typically, they will only have easy access to local records, which is to say they can only see if you were arrested/cited by their agency.

If necessary, a more in depth check can be performed and is called a “triple I” which will include essentially every arrest, but this is rare any typically only done if you’re already under arrest.

If you have an active warrant that is entered into NCIC, they will see it.
