When someone says “it’s just a kids movie” that doesn’t make a movie less horrible or bad

r/

Just because a movie is made for all ages doesn’t mean that it’s good not bad automatically due to it being a kids film rather it’s the complete opposite that you should be able to call a kids movie trash if it is.

Children should have quality entertainment as well and shouldn’t be shown terrible cartoons with choppy and stilted characters and animation and expect everyone to say it’s not bad due to the show or movie being aimed at children

I don’t see people cutting Disney a slack so I’m not sure if that’s something anyone uses to defend a movie to begin with

There’s definitely a distinction between doing something to appeal to kids and doing something you can only get away with because the audience is kids.

Hating something because you aren’t the target audience seems a bit silly, but if something is bad it’s bad.

Are you talking about Minecraft lol

There is a difference though between a movie just being outright bad, or it being aimed at kids. There are many movies aimed at kids that are fine, and there are some that as an adult are corny, cheesy and just hard to watch, but kids love it as its aimed at them. I do think a movie can be aimed at kids and be bad, but a movie aimed at kids doesnt necessarily mean its enjoyable to watch for adults.

I used to love vegitales as a kid, its still probably a decent show for kids with good messages, but as an adult its probably annoying to watch. A good example are the kids youtube channels that sing those annoying songs. Is it bad and annoying? Yes, but its meant for kids, its not meant for you as a 50 y/o male to enjoy.

It reeeeeally depends, imo. If you’re talking about bad animation or inconsistent characterization, “it’s a kid’s show!” is a bad defense because kids can recognize and deserve quality.

On the other hand, if it’s a movie showing people working things out with a loved one and people are like, “she should have gone no contact with her narcissistic JustNo Mother/Father/Abeula!!!!!”… It’s a kid’s movie. Kids need to learn empathy, forgiveness, and conflict resolution. THEN we teach them about when those things fall

you’re not entirely wrong, but there are some things that do appeal to children that might turn off alot of adults, such as repetition, over-explaining, being very on-the-nose when trying to convey a message, just to name a few examples. i dunno, it’s been a while since i watched those kinds of movies

Adults actually seem to be very critical of Disney movies nowadays. Wish was getting so much hate and really it was a mediocre kids movie.

The Lion King is a ‘kids movie’ but legit scarred me for life

No, but kids (mine at least) just want to be entertained for a few hours. Most of them don’t have the knowledge or understanding that adults do of the things that make a movie good or bad. And while I agree that kids movies should be high quality, the things that are lower quality just don’t impact them the way they would an adult.

Don’t you have that one movie that you adored as kid, only to watch it later and realise it’s complete rubbish? It’s the same deal.

It’s really hard to judge the quality of kids content because adults are judging it. I thought iCarly was great TV when I was 13 but rewatching it makes me cringe. Probably because the show is about teenagers and I related to it as a teenager. Animated shows for kids (SpongeBob, Phineas and Ferb) are more enjoyable as an adult.

Bluey is also fire even as an adult lmao

Hey, I went to Minecraft, i cant say if it was good or bad, i legit fell asleep. I mean I guess that says something.

adults and children are wayyyy different markets. My kid loves to play pokemon video games, I like to play civilization VI. If you ask her she will tell you I play the most boring game imaginable while my feelings are reciprocal.

Different markets. “It’s just a kids movie” means that it wasn’t made for you so you probably won’t like it because you are not the target audience.

I am tired of people acting like baby shark isn’t a masterpiece

Are we talking about an all ages movie or a kid’s movie? Because there’s a massive amount of difference between something made for the whole family, like Lilo and stitch, versus something made for just kids, like Elmo in grouchland.

My daughter would love for a movie to have a 5 minute song about a princess learning to ride a magical unicorn on a sparkly rainbow. Literally nothing would bring her more joy.

No matter how well done they produce a movie with that song, no adult will want to watch it (probably).
