i work retail and ive had enough with entitled customers coming in and being rude to my coworkers, especially when the worker is like 14 and the customer is a middle aged adult.
workers should not have to continue helping customers like that. its not fair. there’s no reason to be snippy with an employee who is just trying to help. its just rude and inconsiderate and unnecessary. and i know they’re rude because they can, because they know staff has to help them.

I suspect this opinion is a lot more popular than people like to admit, but the wealthy have such disproportionate power over politics that business owners don’t want to cross a potentially-wealthy customer.
This is the correct opinion. The moment you treat me as less than, I’m done. Gtfo.
When I worked in a grocery store a customer was making rude remarks at me, I had enough called the worker who was over 18 and told them im not dealing with this customer.
Then went back to working the register for other customers, and I’ve tried to keep that policy, if you are rude I’m not dealing with you.
Never had a boss tell me off for it & luckily I haven’t had to deal with many rude customers. for reference I live in Denmark.
It depends.
Rude and unjustified? No. But if someone is being rude because another member of staff kicked their daughter then yeah being rude is entirely justified.
But being rude to a staff member because you don’t like that the prices went up is entirely unjustified.
Where the line is I can’t say but it exists.
I don’t – aha – buy it. Being rude is not the same as laying into someone. If a customer is really trying to tear you apart then, by all means, reject their custom, but if they are just a bit angry about something that’s gone wrong, then live with it and don’t take it personally – it’s part of the job. You are the company’s representative and you are expected to accept responsibility for, and deal with, minor screwups, even when you are not personally to blame.
If I owned a business I would never request one of my employees to perform a task or be engaged in an experience I’m not willing to do myself
My employees would have my full proxy in regards to rude customers, ignore and move on. If things escalate it is the understanding of every employee they have their fellow workmates’ backs
I am on the fin line all the time cause any time someone gets rude with me I tell them if they keep going I won’t be helping them, most people shut up after that but a few have clapped back about me being rude to them but I just say you lost the right to say that the moment you were rude to me do you want my help or not.
