When I hear “indigo,” I picture a deep blue with a slight purple hue—kind of like the sky just after sunset. Not quite navy, not quite violet, but somewhere in between.
It’s suspected Isaac Newton meant regular blue. So blue. When he put the colors of the rainbow in ROYGBIV order, we think he meant cyan when he wrote “blue” and what we would think of true blue when he wrote “indigo”.
The idea that indigo is between blue and purple is some bad history. It’s between HIS blue (cyan) and purple.
Blue with some purple. Then I remember the article I read about how there is no such color as purple, it’s just a trick our mind plays. So blue, I guess. lol
Went to an indigo dying workshop and realized indigo is definitely blue. I had pictured it having more purple tones, but not when made from indigo plants.
