Which card will you chose?

r/

A super rich billionaire named Sam from the year 3035 comes back to the past to give you a gift for your birthday!

It’s not your birthday? Well he doesn’t have to know that.

Sam offers you to chose from 5 cards, each having significant amounts of money or potential for it

The red card: This card has a lot of 500 million dollars that refreshes every month, so go buy a yacht, he’ll go buy 2! But for every 1000$ you spend a random person will explode, no traces back to you, you’ll just have to live with the fact you’re the reason someone died.

The blue card: With this card whatever inorganic item you touch is evaporated into nothingness but trangerr into money depending on how much it costs. The value is based off of the average cost of the item in the area you’re currently in.

The green card: this button only has 5$ on it, but Everytime you obtain a new and valuable skill that you can find a real appliance for, the 5$ doubles. But while you can take money out you cannot put money into the card

The orange card: this card allows you to pick one specific thing, such as houses, cars, Pokemon cards or even pets! And whatever you choose you will now be able to purchase completey for free. But everything you purchase must have an original cost under 10 million$

The purple card: you just get 20 million dollars no catch!

Why are you still reading?

Ok well since you obviously want a catch here you go

you have to spend 40 thousand dollars every single day or else you explode and die, you can’t just buy stocks and you cannot give out money, they must be meaningful purchases and you cannot set up an automated system or hire anyone to do it for you. Once the balance drops below 40 thousand dollars you can spend it freely without any risk of death!

That’s too easy. I choose my one specific thing to be redeemable GIC or bonds or something similar for the amount of $9,999,999. I cash them out and now have money to spend as I wish.

As for spending the minimum amount every day, I pay a family member $40k/day to be a personal chef. I’ll be rich, I don’t want to cook for myself anymore. I might as well pay a family member to cook for me and take care of the minimum spending. Kill three birds with one stone.

The blue card seems like fun but knowing my luck I’d drop it and get to briefly enjoy being the richest human being to ever live before I died of suffocation in the cold black void of space.

So to avoid that I’ll pick the orange card and make stocks the one thing I can purchase for free.

How do I spend $40K a day with the green card?

  5. omgmypony Avatar

I’m going with the green card. I am constantly trying new hobbies and learning new skills so this one is a no brainer. Learning 50 useful skills would make me a quadrillionaire. I’d probably stop somewhere around 40 which would put me firmly in the trillionaire range.

Is it game over once I cash out, or does the money on the card keep doubling every time I develop a new skill?

Orange Card. I pick houses. I will claim a bunch of free houses so I can rent and sell them.

  7. pm_me_boobs_pictures Avatar

Red card. I sort out the world’s overpopulation

  8. Drakahn_Stark Avatar

Orange card, go for houses, I buy a house a day until my daily staffing and property management bill is above $40,000

I rent them out cheaply to people suitable to the area the house is in.

This is going to create some drug addict hell holes, so those areas get full time staffing of addiction specialists, harm reduction measures, employment services, educational stuff, alternative entertainment, etc.

Hmm, I just saw “Once the balance drops below 40 thousand dollars you can spend it freely without any risk of death!” The orange card doesn’t have a balance as the houses are free, so, I don’t even need to worry about the 40K, though I would still end up spending more than that per day.

Question for the green card: How well do I need to develop the skill for the money to double? What counts as a valuable skill?

EX: Let’s say I want to learn to crochet. Is that considered a “valuable” skill? Is it sufficient to just be able to crochet one row, or do I need to finish a competent project before the money doubles? Do I need to be an expert crocheter to get the money to double?

Assuming that “valuable skill” is a fairly broad category and that I only need to learn the skill at a passable level for the money to double, I would take the green card. If I need to be an expert or the definition of “valuable” is really high, then I’m going with the purple card.

Orange card is just free infinite money, not sure why you would take anything else.

Not a huge fan of the red card, let’s take a look at the others.

The blue card would definitely kill me, I’d suffocate in minutes.

For the green card, the definition of a qualifying skill is a liiiittle bit fuzzy, but I should be able to get more money than I could ever want in a month or maybe even a day.

The orange card is really just infinite money since you can just resell the stuff. Possibly a lot of legwork though.

The purple card is just the green and orange card with finite money and no effort. Pretty good. Oh wait no I’d die. Nevermind.

I’d definitely go with the orange card. The green card gives me a lot more money, but it has no off switch, so I’d destroy the economy with runaway inflation. Unless of course nobody KNOWS I have this money until I spend it. Then I guess the green card.

I wouldn’t give billions to charity or anything like that though, since by increasing inflation I’d essentially be taking money from everyone and giving it to the charity, and I don’t feel great about that.

Orange card. Buy houses and set up a rental empire.

It doesn’t matter. I’ll just refuse to follow the catch and allow myself to explode and die. This person knows it isn’t my birthday but is giving me an escape route from whatever hell he traveled back from.

The Green card. I’m a software engineer, I’m constantly needing to learn new things professionally, much less my personal life where I’m constantly learning new board games, new handyman skills to fix my house, etc. If I manage to learn just 22 things I’ll have more money than I need for life. If I keep learning new things all my life I end up a multi-quadrillionaire.

  18. UltraVioletEnigma Avatar

The green card is interesting, but it isn’t clear what is considered “valuable” (technically anything could be or not be valuable depending on opinion) and what counts as learning the skill (how well do I need to know the skill to have considered having learned it? So I think the orange card would be better. I could use another commenter’s idea of redeemable GICs, but idk if those would count since you technically invest in them, not buy them. So if it has to be something you actually buy, I’d choose gold. And then I’d buy gold bars from banks, and then sell them back. Houses could possibly give more money, but it is also harder to sell and has way more paperwork associated. I could buy and sell 20 bars in a day and have enough to buy a house and still be a millionaire.

  19. Effective_Cold7634 Avatar

Red card, I’d just not spend any money rather give it to my family and they’d do the stuff for me .

  20. TheEvilSatanist Avatar

I would take the orange card, buy a house for $10 million, then turn around and sell it (I’m okay with taking a little bit of loss) invest the profits and live off the interest.

  21. Dpopov Avatar

I wanted to say “red” card because realistically it’s the best option if other people exploding doesn’t bother you. But then it hit me, if one person explodes per $1000 spent, and there’s 8 billion people in the world, you can only spend ~$8 million before you’re the only person left in the world. My first intended purchase alone, a genuine WWII P-51D Mustang, would wipe out over half the world.

So, I guess I’ll just take the orange card, choose houses, then rent them. It’s the second best option.

Blue card. I only have to destroy a single item with it, ever. I touch a particular sky scraper in NYC that I find offensive. Given cost of construction, cost of penthouse sales, etc, it is probably worth billions. No one will ever be able to prove I destroyed it because I’ll be as shocked as everyone else that it worked.

Orange card, it’s literally free money. I would get 9,999,999.99 GBP of gold every day, which is 128.79kg of gold, then I would sell it as I wish for cheaper than normal so that I can get a lot of people to buy it and get quick cash.
