Which parts of America do you think has this level of safety?

r/

Where you can walk out at night without homeless people wanting to start a fight with you, and walk out night peacefully listening to music etc without fearing anyone

Disclaimer: this isn’t me implying American cities are not safe, in fact the city (CBD and train stations mainly) I live in Australia currently is filled with homeless people wanting to start a fight and in certain suburbs it feels icky to walk at night, whereas in many parts of Sydney I can feel safe at night without anyone wanting to start a fight

You can do that in many/most suburbs.

  2. Popular-Local8354 Avatar

    The vast majority of suburbs.

Parts of quite a few CBDs (the safety in a Raleigh or Omaha is very different from a St. Louis).

i personally have never really felt unsafe in cities at night, just mind your business and don’t go where you shouldn’t

The overwhelming majority of locations in America fit this criteria.

Most major cities are safe and fine.

    You’re being super weird.

I lived in Chicago. You could do this in 90% of neighborhoods in that city despite what the media might tell you.

If you can do that in Chicago you can do that in 99.9999% of places

I do this all the time in Pittsburgh and have done so many times in Philadelphia. Not difficult if you know how to avoid confrontation

Almost all of the United States. There’s probably less than half a dozen streets in Maine where you would feel less than this level of safety.

Anywhere outside a major city, so a few million a square miles

My neighborhood, I genuinely have not seen a SINGLE homeless person in my neighborhood. Granted my neighborhood is a few miles south of the rest of the town and it’s not really near another town, but it still counts. It’s to the point you can play music without AirPods and it wouldn’t really drive anyone insane. Some people might find it annoying but I think nobody actually went to the board and complained.

almost everywhere. I live in a small city and it would be fine.

but I went to NYC a few years ago and walked around the neighborhood I was staying in at night and listened to stuff on my earbuds the whole time. It was fine and chill, nothing interesting happened

You can do that in 99% of American towns/cities

The US has major cities, but the population is very dispersed, even in the western US. Imagine if the outback had a few cities of a million people and some cities descending size about every 250miles out

My house fits this description. It’s why I moved here

    Basically all of American suburbia.

The bigger issue in the rural areas are animals not people, but for your criteria of not fearing anyone then these areas count.

Most urban areas aren’t that bad, especially if you know the area. The vast amounts of cities are safe except for a few spots, so if you avoid those you’re gonna be fine

Most of the US fits that description. Only, there are certain parts of cities where you simply don’t go, and there’s no reason to go. Those parts get so much media attention that it seems like the entire city of St. Louis or Chicago are so dangerous that you’ll be shot by a drive by. Even in these bad areas (I’ve been to them), it’s simply untrue that you’re guaranteed to be a victim of a crime, but it’s more of possibility… Like anywhere in the world, if you’re not looking for trouble, or buying drugs, you won’t have problems. Is there an increased possibility that something could happen to you in a bad area of town? Sure. But just stay away from there. 99% of the US isn’t like this though.

Basically every suburb, most streets in most cities (most being like 75-85%), and most small towns. Just don’t be an asshole and people will largely leave you alone. You might see a homeless dude but they’ll leave you alone 90-95% of the time.

    Anywhere in the US.

I would say for cities Boston feels very safe, but it’s wildly expensive probably similar to Sydney.

Honestly, people are saying suburbs, but almost all cities are safe to walk through at night. Like, I live in a city with one of the highest percentage of homeless people, but… they’ve never started a fight with me. I hear stories about it, but if you have a bit of street smarts, nobody really bothers you even in the tougher neighborhoods.

Homeless people starting fights? WTF? Why?

I’d feel comfortable walking around pretty much everywhere in the US. Even the “worst” parts of the cities that get so much flak are generally safe for people who pay attention to what’s going on around them and mind their own business at the same time.

People are saying any suburb, etc. But I think that’s not quite true. My small hometown used to be quite safe, but meth and out of state university students moved in. I used to walk my dogs at night during the summer with no problems. But now you have to be careful of men wondering around.

My mother didnt live in a bad neighborhood and then they found a meth lab next door.

Honestly the majority of the country with walkable spaces. Only major cities and specific suburbs have this problem.
