Why are black men more likely to get prostate cancer?

r/

I was taking a testicular cancer awareness survey to find out if I could have possible signs of early symptoms or anything (I am black) and as the survey follows, there is a question asking me if I am of darker skin color or African descent because it would make me more likely to get it… But why? I have already researched it but have not gotten a straight up answer that could end the debate for me.

I’m thinking it’s predominantly socioeconomic, not being able to afford checkups at the appropriate ages or having too much going on to bother.

Genetics. Certain races and ethnicities have different genetics that are more prone to certain diseases.

If a genetic mutation occurs in an ethnicity and that ethnicity isn’t particularly known to mix with other groups, it can become prominent in the group. Sometimes these mutations cause cancer.

Poor diet and lack of proper health health care.

    Probably testosterone.

Prostate cancer is even lower in Asians than in whites.

Bigger surface area means there’s more that could catch it.

    Don’t ask this here.

All these responses are so fucking stupid.

    Ask medical professionals.

I can only speak for the Jamaican group here, but it’s linked to homophobia and general dislike of how it’s tested. If you look under any posts about prostate cancer, it’s a bunch of unserious men whining about how ‘gay’ it is. It’s ridiculous really…… Just go get tested …

Genetics and less access to proper screenings and checkups. Some just get old never having it checked. Isn’t 50 like a once a year checkup just for that? Yea, they ain’t going to that appointment.
