They’re really convenient, most of the pairs of shorts I own are cargo. Why do so many people seem to revile them?
They can’t possibly be THAT ugly, right? I mean, I don’t think they’re ugly at all, but apparently a lot of people do. Are they that bad compared to other things like suspenders or jorts that are seen as kind of trendy?

Because men like them.
Go watch the movie Superbad.
It’s not something that should be taken seriously. But yes cargo shorts are uglier than just regular chino shorts. I will make fun of cargo shorts for the rest of my life and personally do not like them. But I don’t actually care about other people wearing them, wear what you like. I wear hoochie daddy shorts so I’m getting made fun of for my shorts as well.
Don’t worry, they’re going to become popular again real soon.
Jealousy by those who can’t wear them.
Personally I just don’t like the look of baggy stuff in general. Comes off as if the person is trying to hide some imperfections.
I don’t know, I just know I hate them. It’s just a matter of taste, I find them ugly af.
They look goofy as fuck. I don’t think there’s a single store in my country that sells them. Cargo shorts seem to be a US thing anyway.
I don’t know, and with the temps we get here, I’ll keep wearing my cargo bermudas for the time being.
No way I’m wearing pants with 39°C outside.
Women are jealous because of the amount of pocket space they have.
As a man, I find cargo shorts very useful for holding extra things.
As a gay man, I find cargo shorts very unflattering. They’re typically baggy, get weighed down by whatever is in the pockets, and don’t contour to the legs the way regular shorts do.
So, I don’t hate them, because they’re useful, but I also wouldn’t wear them out anywhere I wanted to look good.
For me it’s a couple of reasons I’ll never wear them. They are too long for my liking, they tend to be a thicker and heavier material and too many pockets. I live in Texas I’m looking to wear light and thin clothes.
I was told that they, like all baggy clothes, aren’t form fitting, and that’s why. You look better in clothes that show your form, and complement it. I was told.
I can answer why I don’t like cargo shorts.
– I have long, straight, muscular legs. I want to show them off, so I wear either nice fitted pants, or fitted shorts.
– I see a lot of bald overweight dudes wear cargo shorts, don’t want to associate myself with them.
What are you doing through the day that you need all of those fckin pockets? JFC
They’re not the best looking things in the world. Definitely function over form. Great for working in though.
Who gives a shit what other people think of your clothes. If you like them wear them.
They can be that ugly and they are
I just donated all my cargos. I dropped weight and found them to be way too heavy. Now I can wear chinos or so e other style with comfort and not feel ridiculous. The cargos are super handy when carrying stuff but they just feel heavy and bulky in the summertime.
Who exactly hates them?
They’re ugly and bulky. Utilitarian, yes. Stylish? No.
Chino shorts without the bulky pockets are much better.
Ever have a group of MLM guys jump you to get onto their pyramid schemes all while wearing cargo shorts?
IDGAF and never will, the whole world can Nelson “haha!!” point and laugh at me and I’m still not giving up my 6 pockets to stow my stuff in summer when I’m going out. Besides, you can buy lots of shorts now that blend the thigh pockets a little better than the usual pocket-with-flap-on-top design. Seriously, what’s worse? more pockets or dragging around a knapsack or a murse. Keep on wearing them bud, the only place anyone gives a shit is right here, on the internet, not in daily reality. That goes for a lot of other things too tbh
I never understood this one either, or why so many YouTube fashion videos and such list them as ugly. I think they both look great and are super functional. I guess many folks consider shorter, tighter shorts to be in style thes days? Idk though, always wearing cargo shorts because otherwise I’d have to carry one of my phone, keys and wallet. Can’t fit all that in two small tight pockets.
If your cargo game is strong…you have no game
I’m a lady and I think cargo shorts on men are hot. More pockets to put nice rocks in on your journey.
Fashionably, they are horrendous. They typically are very baggy and they fall far too low, over the knee. This could be fine if they were like really long, flowing khaki/denim shorts, or capris that would work great with a long sweater or loose knit linen shirt, except for the side pockets that draw your attention down to the “ugly” part of the pants. However I’ve had cargo short shorts that I loved, because they weren’t too long, and the pockets were sewed in flush with the pant leg, so they weren’t too visually overwhelming, but still brought attention down to my legs, rather than to the pants themselves.
If I were to write my college thesis on it, I would say cargo shorts are a complete abandonment of style in preference of utility, and since they aren’t full fledged cargo pants, are still not maxed out on utility either, seeing as how they are shorts, rather than pants.
