I’ve seen this new trend on english speaking social media spaces and i just don’t get it
Why are people abbreviating words that are already short like “This to ts” or “Uncle to unc” now?

Idk
Because people are too damn lazy to type out whole words.
F knows.
But it is useful for coding or command prompts like diskpart
select partition vs sel par when you type it several times makes a lot more sense time wise.
It’s laziness. I find it lame.
excuse me ts stands for this shit
Its purposefully absurd and dumb, which is what most humor seems to be nowadays. The fact that they are already short and abbreviating it is redundant is why it’s funny to people. There’s also a trend of “making up” the regular versions of the words. For example “New Slang: Instead of saying ts, we should say this”
Ts is “this shit” and is usually used as a way of getting around censors, mostly on tiktok. I think some people use it outside of that but mostly out of habit. Unc just sounds cooler idk.
It may be being shortened now, but unc Is a specific term for the neighborhood guys that call everyone nephew
Saving characters on Twitter maybe? Some of it is just slang
We are becoming non-verba
There’s no way ts means this…
Laziness
“ts” = “this shit” “unc” is just shortened slang like “bro” or “sis” but it’s sometimes more derogatory aimed at people who are getting older. My buddy didn’t hear someone at work yelling at him one time and my other buddy said “Unc need a new hearing aid.”
Here, solved it for you

You’re welcome
I don’t even think it’s laziness like many people here are saying. At least not primarily laziness. Even many smart people are doing this too, so it isn’t always failure of education either. It’s very much a status thing. Putting in effort = low status in people’s minds. Everyone is trying to sound like they “dgaf” because it elevates their perceived status. So they put the minimal effort into everything.
You see a similar thing in “mumble rap”. That’s the exact same idea there. It’s meant to sound extremely low effort, projecting an “idgaf” attitude
Lzy
I think ts stands for this shit but I’m not sure

Generations of people brought up using their thumbs and phones to ‘type’
This isn’t anything new. Find some old letters people wrote 150 years ago, and you’ll see they were doing it then.
Cuz simplicity is key
Aint nobody got time for that
It’s the vibe now.
People are becoming lazy and stupid.
Because why not? As long as people know what you’re saying and can understand English there shouldn’t be a problem
Idk about ts but “unc” just goes crazy. Goated word. Unc.
Xennial here, this isn’t new. Back in college we ordered za and had to call and talk to the rents. People just abbreviate things.
It’s not a new trend in English or on social media
What do you mean “now”??
For at least a century we’ve taken old formal words and shortened them. “OK” used to drive my great-grandparents crazy, “tho” used to drive my parents and grandparents crazy!
people will usually hate how older/younger people talk if they have beef with that crew
Why use many word when short word does trick.
I have a different interpretation for ts. IYKYK. But no for real its just slang, people who dont like it are old. im almost 30 and by professor says lit, cool beans and i think its corny but shes cool af
Lazy slow people. Slow as in stupid. Not special, just really stupid. Acronyms like that do no good, it actually deters people from hiring people. Same with emojis.
Go away, Batin!
The dumbing down of America is in full swing.
Ts stands for this shit
Every generation must reject
all previous generations’ message coding and secret handshakes and substitute their own, and likewise condemn those of successive generations as lazy, unintelligent, and unnecessary. That’s just the way it is, unc.
‘An’ for ‘and’. You really saving a lot of time by dropping the last letter?
On Reddit, you can take character limit for granted. But almost every other major social media trends towards brevity. Extremely so on the cases of Twitter and Tiktok.

Ts is wild, I am speechless.
Unc has been a term for decades in speech
Y do U GASF?
sorry bud, you used bad examples and got roasted. but I totally agree with you on the unnecessary shortening of words and abbreviations that save less than 2 seconds of typing. I think it all started when we had to text with the numbers on the keypad of cell phones.
Laziness and brain rot
The same reason anyone abbreviates anything: they can’t be arsed to type three more letters.
Slang has always evolved and will always evolve. It’s always young people at the forefront of it and old people getting annoying by it. When I was a kid, adults used to shit on us for using the word “cool.”
It’s never going to stop, so you can stay “cool” by not being a little bitch about kids inventing new slang terms.
Two words in emoji form 🪟 👅
Mn i ant shspher icl you p.o yolo BRB btw
Ever seen a Mr Magoo cartoon? UNC has been a thing.
How? They type less letters.
It’s annoying. I keep finding myself having to Google abbreviations, because I either haven’t seen them before or just can’t remember them
TS like TS Eliot?
I’m 41 and called my closest uncle Unc my whole life.
Thr lzy
“unc” been around 4 a good long while now, its not new just bc white people found it yesterday
ts is this/that shit. Unc isn’t that weird, not much different than bro, sis, cuz, etc.
If they try to shorten Aunt to Aun, I’ll be with you.
It’s slang
Some like it, some don’t.
I prefer whole words.
‘ause e’re ett’n azy
Unc isn’t new. Ts is an acronym. Abbreviated words like that have been in fashion forever. There’s a dialogue in my favorite movie, 1945’s The Lost Weekend, between a young woman and a man who sounds like you. The woman says “don’t be redic” and the dude says something like “do you have to use those dumb abbreviations?”
hbd. If you can’t be bothered wishing me a happy birthday, then dont bother at all.
Idk
( release the slime !! )
Pretty sus
worst I see is “nd” instead of and, it saves 1 letter :/
Tik tok lingo
