I noticed this during Speed’s stream. When he was in Argentina, donations and comments were mostly normal, except for a few messages. But when he was in Chile, he received donations from Argentina criticizing and speaking badly about Chileans.
Something similar happened when a song by Violeta Parra was sung in Argentina—many Argentinians claimed it was from their country and then continued insulting Chileans. Another recent example is Stray Kids in Chile, where many Argentinians on Twitter criticized Chileans for chanting “Olé, olé, olé, olé, Chile, Chile.”
These are just a few examples of many. On the other hand, Chileans often idolize Argentinians, giving them space on television, speaking highly of their country, etc.

Maybe Speed fans are all idiots with the minds of teenagers and it’s not that all Argentinians are like that?
“Why is there so much hate on the internet”
Chile’s involvement in the Malvinas War is the main reason. Whether it was a good or bad move by the Chilean dictatorship to support Britain during that conflict is a different matter, certainly open for discussion, but that along with the Beagle Strait islands conflict that ensued and the border disputes created this image of “traitorous neighbor”
I personally like Chile a lot, have travelled to the country several times and have no issues with it. But some people hold a resentment against Chile based on historic reasons, and that usually shows during football games or internet banter.
Argentinos hate chileans? Ask them what they think about brazilians..
Envy of the simple fact of knowing how much your money will be worth next week.
Because we sided with the U.K. during the Falklands War and supported them.
Which was by far the right decision, by the way. People try to disregard it saying it was taken by the Pinochet dictatorship, which is correct, but I’m certain a democratically elected government would have taken the same decision.
You have to look at the context, Chile was a poor country, huge poverty rate. Argentina was in a much better position. And just three years before, we had the Beagle Conflict, where if it wasn’t for the pope’s intervention, we would have been invaded by Argentina and a super bloody war would have ensued, the preparations were already in place, the Argentinian junta did a great job at making public opinion support the idea. It was literally an existential crisis for us as a nation.
And then they lost the war with the British, they have to start pointing fingers, saying whose fault it was, and some of the blame was put on us, because we were “traitors”.
They somehow think we should have said “Argentina, I know you just tried to invade us, but let’s leave all that behind and let us support you in this war because we are Latin American brothers”.
It made absolutely no sense.
Besides the banter of being neighbors and some old border disputes, this seems to be mainly about the fact that the chilean government gave support to the British in the Malvinas war. Since then we are “chilenos traidores” and all that. I don’t think it’s fair to judge current citizens for the mistakes of an old fascist dictator but hey what you gonna do…
Who is Speed?
>On the other hand, Chileans often idolize Argentinians, giving them space on television, speaking highly of their country, etc.
You do? My twitter feed is full of chileans answering argentinian insults, although what I receive looks like mostly answers to banter (jokes about how narrow Chile is, f.e., and not racial slurs although one or two may appear and I just asume it coming from idiotic teenagers). My impression was that the rivalry was even.
As for the question itself, its the Internet, you’ll find hate for everything.
Argentinians are like that with everyone. I think it’s ironic that they accuse Brazilians of having main character syndrome when they have a hissy fit everytime they aren’t winning or the attention isn’t on them.
Is just a jokely rivalry that no one thakes serious to my knowledge, like Mexico and Costa Rica or Venezuela and Colombia.
Personally, I like Chile, and I don’t think they’re that different from us. There’s usually some resentment among older people because there were many military tensions in the 20th century.
What you’re talking about mostly happens on social media, and not just with Chile.
It’s just stupid people on the internet and the classic banter between neighbouring countries, but in real life Chileans and Argentinians get along very well. There’s almost no issue between both countries, despite some old resentment because of the Malvinas War and border disputes.
It’s just an Internet rivalry thing due to things that happened decades ago. All the Chileans I’ve met in person are very nice people.
I don’t think it’s too serious, it’s normal for neighboring countries to have these sorts of rivalries, even if more one-sided at times. Though I’m not sure how one-sided it actually is in this case, despite what you might say. As a Venezuelan, I’ve seen how ready Chileans can be to justify genuine hatred to another Latin-American country as normal or common-sense.
I mean, Argentinians hate pretty much everybody on the internet.

I would say that the original sin is that Pinochet supported the British war effort in the South Atlantic War (ignoring the fact that tensions between Chile and Argentina were very high at the time and that Galtieri wanted to invade Chile next. Malvinas was supposed to be just a warm-up. Most people just don’t know these things).
That is what I see most present in the “collective national mind”, and I believe that any other reason is over-analysis (Yeah, you can argue a historical rivalry and blah blah blah. We had an historical rivalry with Brazil, arguably faaaar more important than with Chile, went to war with them, had a strategic defeat, and no one cares about that. Most people like Brazil and Brazilians despite +150 old history).
On top of that, Chile had a good streak in football at the same time that we were having a very bad one. People are very proud of the national team, and being mocked by an arguably far worse team wasn’t taken kindly.
On the other hand, you probably already know that Chilean nationalists are very similar to ours and, because of it, also very proud and have a big mouth. So whatever seed of conflict was already present was then exacerbated by the great intellectual debates online, such as “Messi vs. Vidal”, “Who is the rightful owner of Patagonia”, “Which country is less poor”, etc.
Just normal behavior between neighbouring countries. Nothing special.
It’s just banter on the Internet. Gotta grow a thicker skin, brother.
Go touch grass
I was just watching this video, popped over to Reddit to find this thread. Check it out for some insight.

TBH ..Argentines hates basically everyone..since i am a stay i can Tell you about the SKZ concert…Basically They have skiped Argentina in this tour so they are sour about it and since Chile was the first LATAM country Stray kids traveled too they were fuming.
Anyways online Argentinians makes themselves really unlikeble..they should have some sort off media training Or something to fix this reputation.
Argentinians hate everybody and everybody hates Argentinians, thats just how the world works
I just wanted to add that what you’re saying about Violeta Parra’s song didn’t happen at all how you’re saying. Shawn Mendez played in Argentina and he sang this song from her that is mostly well-known for a cover Mercedez Sosa made of it. Shawn Mendez said during his show that it was an Argentinian song and then people in Chile got absolutely mad about it, to the point on which he had to apologize and sing it again in your country.
As an Argentinian, I like Chilean people. I consider them my second-best friends after Uruguayans. But in reality, most Argentinians don’t have any fight with Chileans, but we like to tease them If it comes to arguing about history or football.
The thing is while not all Argentinians are like that, when an Argentinian is racist, is SUPER FUCKING RACIST to the point of making MAGA gringos look sane
Studying the dynamics of Latam, Argentines don’t seem to easily like most countries. They seem to tolerate or semi-like Uruguay because of cultural proximity and have a very weird love/hate BDSM relationship with Brazil.
I would like to add that Argentinean superchats cost nothing because Youtube hasn’t fixed their regional prices since like forever.
So a red superchat, which stays in the top of the chatbox for 1 hour up, which usually costs $100 costs only 1000 ARS ($1~) for them. Meanwhile for Chileans 1 red superchat costs 50000 CLP ($50~).
And you can increase the time it stays at the top of the box for up to 5 hours by increasing the amount you pay by x5.
What this basically means is that for the low price of $5 Argentineans were able to put a superchat shitting on Chile for 5 hours. Meanwhile if a Chilean donator wanted the same “visibility” they would need to pay $250.
And that basically goes for every other single donation, they were paying basically nothing to shitpost.
So I wouldn’t really count that stream as proof.
Some of the hate comes from 1982, because the chilean goverment (Pinochet) offered help to the english during the Malvinas war. But, again, it was a de facto government, so i can’t blame the chilean for that.
They hate them IRL too.
I’ve never heard Chileans speak badly of Argentinean but I’ve heard the reverse sooo many times. Even people straight up saying “no me gustan los chilenos”. And then there’s the constant regurgitating of the myth that the mapuches are Chilean and weren’t in Argentina before colonisation which justifies robbing the Mapuche of their land in Argentina.
It’s really NOTHING nowadays tbh. When our really shitty football national team won the Copa America two years in a row against Argentina, now that was a time where the internet banter was absolutely crazy. Of course things got back to business as usual just a year or two later.
Hate is a big word. I’ve never felt hate outside regular shit-talk during any sporting event.
In contrast, just to name an obvious example, I have seen plenty of hate towards Venezuelans from my compatriots, to an unhealthy level. That goes beyond the usual sports banter between neighbours like Peru and Bolivia as well.
I gotta put my hands on fire for Argentinians but have you seen the hate that Chilleans bring online.
Argentinians I just have to imagine them speaking and I already know that is not hate and just banter.
Why do Chileans hate Venezuelans so much on the internet? Internet is lile that, everyone hates everyone
We do?
Argentineans hate all other Latinos lol
For a thin piece of land, apparently Chile is doing far better than Argentina… that is why.
Off chance (because now they’ve avenged it) maybe the 2015 and 2016 copa america finals?
On the internet?
Usually we are like brothers or cousins with similar cultures specially with the huaso and the gaucho.
But we also had a number of tensions across the years and a rivalry of culture, Chile becoming way better economically and a better place to live than argentina made some room IQ idiots just hate chile.
We have no envy of them, people that hate the other country have never crossed the Andes.
For my argentinian brother “Chant aun peonen lat ula” from mapundungun meaning a hug dear brother.
envy
Argentinians hate everyone lol
Just on the internet? Lol /s
No, but seriously, it’s the internet. People will hate you no matter who you are, what you do, what you say, etc.
The reason for the excessive hate that you are seeing isn’t because most argentines hate Chileans with passion. It’s because you are on the internet, writing mean stuff to others was, is, and will be part of it no matter the time, place, and actors involved.
Also, it’s not like Chileans are chill with argentines on the internet either.
