Why do I always see officers cuffing people who are clearly deceased?

r/

For example I saw a body cam video a couple years ago where a guy had his head taken off by a shotgun, and when I saw head taken off I mean taken off like nothing was attached to his neck

Under stress you fall back to training.

Someone without a head is extream, but people can survive more than you think and people DO play dead/unconscious. I worked with some guys that went to a suicide call. They ended up in a stand off with the guy after he blew half his head off and refused to drop the gun and stop walking around.

Nothing worse than trying to subdue the undead. Best to take care of it before they reanimate.

How often do you always see this?

We trained to cuffs dead guys, we’re not doctors.

I’m not going to bet everyone else’s safety at the scene because I didn’t spend 3-5 seconds cuffing someone laying on the ground. Minus again an extremity and the dude literally has no head, I’m not leaving it to chance.

Not saying you’re lying but I call BS on this. We watch a lot of videos and this would’ve been a huge one.

I’m not a doctor and if they committed a crime they’re getting cuffed before I do basic medical treatment while waiting for the ambulance.
