Because it’s typically not the dog. I have met an insane amount of pit bulls that are quite literally the sweetest animals.
I’ve met a bunch of labs that aren’t. I’ve also had a super sweet dog, that in his older years he was losing his marbles, and became aggressive around certain things.
Because they believe there is an unfair narrative against pit bulls. Every breed of dog is capable of attacking a child and it’s a failure on the owners part every time but only in the case of pit bulls is it used to demonize an entire breed.
People don’t believe it because ‘every pitbull I’ve ever met has been nice’. Whilst this is true for a majority of dogs people don’t want to see that something bad can happen.
It’s silly, just as silly to paint all pitbulls or other dogs with the same brush. Most dog owners don’t realise what the type of dog needs and assume that they can provide it.
For example a Greyhound is going to have much different needs than a Pitbull.
Several reasons but most of all (IMO) is there is a huge difference between an actual APBT (breed) and a “pit bull type” (generalization) dog. Most of the time the dog they are referring to is not actually an APBT (America pit bull terrier) but just a dog of unknown breed (mixed) that looks like a Pit Bull by having short hair and a blocky head.
Because we as humans naturally like to demonize things even if it’s just a small portion of the population.
It’s literally just human instinct kicking in. Avoid the potentially dangerous thing.
Those who rally to say otherwise are dealing with the portion of the population that obviously isn’t as aggressive. So they are defending what they know their (fur babies). This is also natural.

In my opinion:

They do the same with gun violence.

Because there’s no bad dogs, only bad owners.
Because data is not the plural of anecdote.
You’re on a site where people believe their pets genuinely love them back just like humans do, because they try to hump their leg
Like they wouldnt leave you for better or eat your food if they could (or you for that matter)
I get some animals may reciprocate the love but not all, and def not to the extent you think
Proceed with the down votes
And remember OP specifically on this site
Kids bad, pets good
Until it’s guns
Guns bad, kids good
Never any personal responsibility
Pets>kids>guns>minorities
Haven’t you heard? They’re the sweetest, kindest breed of dog you can get.
