Guys like DiCaprio would clearly date even younger women if the law allowed it

It can’t just be that ‘the heart wants what it wants’ because well you try connecting with a bloody 16 year old, they’re on a completely different wavelength and romance shouldn’t even creep into the picture
I know men are programmed to be attracted to fertile looking women which often corresponds with youth and some younger women can be physically developed but these guys could have their pick of beautiful women… without also setting themselves up for legal problems and reputation damage
Is it a matter of power and control?
Does the taboo aspect excites them?
Edit I don’t mean to infantilise young people who can in some cases be more mature than people twice their age… but something tells me that’s not the rationale behind these guys decisions to date them
Perhaps I’m in the minority of men who genuinely feel that women generally speaking get sexier as they move through their 20s and usually peak in their 30s not just mentally but physically as well

I just learned about Paul walker and I’m crushed. I think it has to do with control yes. And maybe they think it’s some type of challenge. The youngest girl they can get at their old age. Paul walker wasn’t old, old. But still. Crazy
I mean, isn’t this just us being aware of it because it’s broadcast. Some random creepy 30 year old isn’t being videoed everywhere with paparazzi following them. Even then if you see people in public and the age gap is very significant you might make the assumption that she’s his daughter or something

I’m sure at least a part of it is the power dynamics. A young girl would be much more vulnerable and dependent financially and emotionally, so they would have absolute control over them. They get to do basically anything they want, and the poor kid doesn’t even know what is happening is wrong or that they should protest.
The feeling of power and doing something unconventional is very appealing

I have to assume it reflects something closer to the rate at which the general population would do this, if it didn’t require a certain degree of wealth and celebrity to skate on.
On one level it’s power, sure.
Even an 18 year old would have trouble resisting a 40 year old millionaire. He would outwit her at every step, and she would be held in the relationship by romantic notions and the promise of a hell of a payday (or maybe she’s already enjoying outrageous wealth).
But there’s also this extremely old (and honestly outdated) notion of “purity”. Elvis, for example, chased this. That’s why he hung around underage girls – they were, for him, purer.
And then there’s beauty. Surface level beauty. All of cosmetic industry is built to attempt to mimic when you were 18 (unless you had bad skin) – no wrinkles, everything is perky and “fresh”.
It doesn’t last, but the pedos don’t care, because they’ll predate someone else once the current victim “expires”.
The mental differences I honestly don’t know about. Someone who is 18, and someone who is 40 should have precious little in common. Unless they both just really like sex, she enjoys his money, he enjoys her youth, and they build a relationship on that alone.
It would definitely be an “empty” one, I suppose, from the vantage point of two equally equipped humans making it together, but I also suppose the millionaires don’t need to make it together – they’ve already made it.
But it’s a different mindset definitely.
Just to clarify, unlike the others Di Caprio has never dated anyone under legal age. He dated one 19 year old when he was 24 and since then has only dated people over 20. So saying he would date younger if he could is completely false because he could, and chooses not to.
Adults dating 16 year olds should always be suspect and criticised, but I don’t understand this obsession with infantalising legal adults. He dates a young and attractive model, they date a movie star who is by all accounts very likable and get access to his lifestyle. Personally I wouldn’t consider it the most meaningful partnership but different people have different priorities.
The underaged thing is weird. Being that famous you have the pick over anyone? And they go illegal? Weird.
My wife is in her 30’s now and when we met she was 24. I’m 6 years older than her. The only thing that I can think of is the way younger women look and idolize you. That peering up to you like they’re enthralled with everything you say and do. Everything you know is new information and they’re amazed. That feeling is a drug. I never dated younger before beside a year.
When I met my wife she grabbed my hand, and claimed me as hers. Like I didn’t do anything. She perused me. The way she looked up at me as if she were hanging on to every word I said.
I hate being around people, parties, and especially open markets. She’s the opposite and love the connection of all of it. And I noticed in our groups of her friends the girls always snagged older guys and did that same “looking up to” their guy. On top of that they were the leaders and the pursuer in the relationship.
I can’t speak for famous people. I mean it’s even in movies like Dazed & Confused. If you ask the guys it’s kind of gross but self explanatory. However, I think we need to ask the younger women. Why do you like older men?

Because they can. Because no one is going to stop them. The truth is, these desires aren’t necessarily more “common” amongst celebrities than everyday men, the celebrities are just going to get away with it.
Nobody cares if a man preys on teenagers as long as they find that man entertaining enough to maintain fame. People will excuse virtually anything if a man has enough money, power or is talented enough. Average Joes get arrested, the Paul Walkers of this world get treated like saints despite being literal predators.

It’s harsh reality but most of us are not monogamous. They (and most of us) want to date as many as possible. And it becomes a scandal when it involves a minor and it is exposed.
Arm candy, interest the paparazzi, the girls are considered recyclable…

Ok I’ve read the comments and i see nobody talking about this: I’ve noticed a lot of guys that do this, being very (emotionally) immature. They have to go for younger girls, because they’re the only ones tolerating their bullshit. I know a guy, when I was a teenager, that first dated in his age bracket, then his first relationship was over. He started dating a girl 3-4 years younger than him. Ok, little weird but alright. Then that relationship was over, he yet again, dated a girl around 18. That girl was my best friend. This guy was pretty much a wreck, but because he was older and lived on his own, had good charisma and a good head on his shoulders, he kept getting these young girls. After a couple of years, also my friend finally stopped dating him. Now he’s 35, single and women his age don’t tolerate his immature bs. If he wasn’t such a failure, he would probably still be dating 18 year olds because they are the only ones not looking straight through him and tolerating everything

They can get anyone except ____ so even though they can legally and freely get (practically) anyone of appropriate age they want what they can’t get… ppl of all walks of life seek what they don’t have. Ppl who can buy anything they want may seek out what they are forbidden from getting…
It seems to mean that ppl who have “everything” (a lot of money and influence) will want “more” and fall into the illegal category of activists. For various reasons but I assume they find it thrilling in their own delusions. If you ever met famous ppl they don’t see the world as we others do.
Then they get into deep and just push their luck until they fall. Many will probably use their influence and money to never be caught, others…
Really when it comes to dating underage it is disgusting and frowned upon by the civilized world. To be clear I’m NOT defending these people. Im just proposing a theory to why it is like it is.
