Why do we treat fevers like near-death but ignore actual injuries?

r/

Genuinely curious about this. It’s a universal experience that when we get sick (like with a fever, flu or a bad cold) it feels like the world is ending.
All of the sudden we’re weak, dramatic, and need to be taken of like we’re in our deathbed and needs a life support.
But then when we twist our ankle, break a bone, cut ourself or get bruised up, we’ll just say it’s fine and walk it off like it’s not a big deal.
Why are we like this?

Because being sick is one of the few moments it’s considered acceptable for men to be helpless and let people wait on us.

I think with an injury we can see it. So we have an idea how long it might take to heal. But with like a cold or flu, we have no fricken clue if it might actually kill us. And moving or doing any activities is just a pain.

It could also be a social construct thing.
