honestly? most productivity apps are total digital procrastination. they make u FEEL like you’re working when you’re really just organizing your a v o i d a n c e

The apps don’t really help you be productive. Rest, passion, clarity of purpose. These give you productivity.

No app in the world can give you that. And even if they help you organize your time better? You still need down time to stay engaged and motivated.

What most people need to improve productivity is balance and boundaries with their job.

Productivity apps can never give you that.

I think burnout is self imposed mental stress. You’re always telling yourself “I should” be doing this or that. Down time and self care is necessary regardless of how efficient you think you are.

We don’t need more productivity. Productivity constantly increases but the benefit only accrues to those at the top. A productivity app will only make things worse.

Because they aren’t resting and trying to fill every free second with something productive. Doing nothing and letting yourself rest is productive, but people see it as lazy.

Because now that it updates instantly and my boss can send a text asking about it at 9 PM on a Saturday, we have become increasingly NOT OK with it. See ya Monday boss.

People burn themselves out by tuning their productivity apps, the ones that are actually productive are not making YouTube videos to tell you all about it.

The ones who become productivity gurus online attract people who think they will learn how to be productive using their methodology. It never works out that way unless you adapt a way of working to meet your needs and preferences. People can get lost in a recursive loop there, trying to chase 0.0001% productivity gains, when they really spent real weeks or months getting there.

I use Neovim and Obsidian daily, I have done so for years. I recommend just using whatever tools you have as tools and ensuring you are doing the work. Not trying to always plan or optimise it. That’s just procrastination porn.

Because people drawn to productivity are often already more neurotic and taking away simplicity through lets say productivity apps is just more stressful.

Because the idea of optimizing for productivity as the primary purpose is actually unhealthy. It isn’t how God made us. Certainly resting on the 7th day is counterintuitive if the goal is productivity optimization.

AI companies and robotics companies are optimizing for efficiency, and it is going to ruin our civilization. We are giving up our dominion over this world, and our only focus is economic productivity, efficiency, and utility, which has at the geart of it the promise of utopia, abundance, and unprecedented scientific discovery. (Not going to happen)
