Why does the left seem to believe that the power elite hasnt sanctioned all of this?

r/

The power elite have their $ wrapped up in the US economy. But given historical trends the US’s time as the reserve currency is coming to an end. Just like the power elite did in Britain when their economy went kaput. They sabotaged it and eventually a massive outflow of capital went to the states. It took about 30 years total before it was done and so will this one. But it needed to be done because as took place in Britain the juice was already squeezed.

The wealthy know this and they will very likely continue to liquidate the US and move their holdings to the global south. Likely China being the new kingpin. There will be mass migration of Americans and Europeans into the global south while the wealthy live in cleaner environments of of the west. But the money making will happen in the global south.

I see what Trump is doing as having to have been sanctioned by the power elite. I know it’s a conspiracy theory that there’s a shadowy group of people who run things. But it’s been well proven that it does exist. See the book: Who Rules America?

But when the left reacts to the daily news about Trump. It seems you take him in earnest. Like he’s a mad man acting on his own not beholden to anybody. But is there really any possibility that the power elite aren’t in control and that they don’t want it to happen?

I genuinely can’t even comprehend what this post is trying to say

What exactly do you mean by “the global south”?

  4. highriskpomegranate Avatar

there’s a decent chunk of the anti-capitalist (i.e., far) left does believe that, to some degree (though not always or necessarily in a specific conspiracy theory way). people who believe markets are rational and self-regulating will never believe it though.

This is basically begging the question. Yes, if the “power elite” are in control of everything, then they would also be in control of this. But it is also possible that they are not in control of everything, and that the world is far less planned and organized than conspiracy theories would have one believe.

If anything, conspiracy theories that say there is a global elite who control everything may be borne from the desire to believe that everything is progressing according to a plan, even if it’s an evil plan, because the alternative, that things just happen and sometimes there isn’t a reason or a grand plan behind them, is way more terrifying.

I think you could maybe make that argument when it seemed like Trump was just going to do across-the-board tariffs of 10-20%.

Back then, you had a lot of Wall Street CEOs who were echoing Trump’s rhetoric. Saying that, yeah, this was going to cause some short-term pain, but we’d all be better off for it in the long run.

As soon as he revealed the unique tariff rates for each country, which had clearly just been pulled out of some AI’s ass, the Wall Street guys for the most part stopped pushing that “short-term pain” narrative, and went into panic mode.

We are cooked as a society if this is the argument on repeat in today’s society.

No, because one of the most powerful forces in the universe is human stupidity.

Among many other terrible things, Donald Trump is a lying, know-it-all con man and complete ignoramus where economics, the economy and trade are concerned.

Right now, the power elite, as you put it, consists of Trump, Elon Musk and Trump’s gang of loyal accomplices in the White House, and his spineless lackeys and stooges in Congress and elsewhere.

If you’re referring to Trump’s billionaire and multimillionaire backers, I’m sure a whole lot of them are cursing into their scotch and sodas, and needing regular doses of aspirin and changes of underwear because of what he’s done and likely to do.

    I’m glad you acknowledge that.

    It has not.

    > But is there really any possibility that the power elite aren’t in control and that they don’t want it to happen?

    Yes, absolutely.

It might be comforting to you, as a conservative, to think that there’s some method behind Trump’s madness – even if that method is elite maliciousness! – but I’m afraid that’s sadly not the case. You people just elected a damaged, stupid lunatic, and now we’re seeing the consequences.

Trumps ideas about tariffs are from 40 years ago. Those actions from Trump are definitely not sanctioned by any global elite set on switching reserve currencies. You can see it in the split with Elon Musk. Musk would definitely like to see cryptocurrency become the new reserve. There’s even a fairly well documented plan for that. It’s not a conspiracy theory.

Do you ask similar questions of people on the right? What’s going on now is class warfare between the elite and everyone else. By pretending this is about left vs right, we obscure the elite’s position.

  16. monkeysinmypocket Avatar

The obvious flaw in this line of thinking is that none of this would be happening if it were not for Trump. The rich and powerful may try to take advantage of the situation but it was the electorate that gave him power.

If what you’re asking is “does Donald Trump come up with his crazy dumb ideas by himself,” then I’d answer “no, I suspect he has bad advisers, but since he seems to embrace their bad advice, he is still responsible for making those decisions”

Because the only thing the propertied elite is unanimous on is preserving their class rule over the working masses they exploit. Beyond that the bourgeoisie is not a hivemind: Depending on how their investments are structured and what the economy looks like, they might stand to gain or lose from protectionism or free trade, from this or that foreign policy, from wage suppression to increase the rate of exploitation or from a higher wage environment raising consumer demand.

A faction of the American bourgeoisie has thrown their hat in with the MAGAMorons, hoping to protect their uncompetitive industries, gorge on tax cuts to the rich or outright profiteer off the chaos and dysfunction. Other factions of the American bourgeoisie have different portfolios that bind them to opposing interests.

You acknowledge in this long rambling “thought experiment“ that you’re really just laying out of conspiracy theory. Conspiracy theories are comforting because they take a complicated world and give you an answer you can wrap your mind around. They also give you an external evil enemy outside of your control that you have no responsibility for.

That is convenient for you. You were observing yourself from being part of a movement that votes for people you harm America and on the world.

You guys consistently voted for more and more insane people because your media was convincing you that the biggest threats to your life were immigrants and trans people and the idea that a black person might get a good job.
