Why is it cheaper for men to be single and expensive for women?

r/

Basically the title.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people blur and mix the reasons of the above statement. What are your thoughts?

Guy doesn’t have to pay for dates.
Woman don’t have anyone to treat them to a free meal.

Who is spending and who is saving??

Think about how many pillows a single guy has in his place versus how many a woman has.

You can extrapolate our from there.

bc men are (generally) expected to foot the bill – every bill.

food, shopping, gas, hair, nails, dates, etc.

so when we are single, we are eliminating some expenses entirely, or cutting them in half.

when women are single, theyre mostly paying for those things themselves, unless they got a sugar daddy or a few nice and/or dumb guys who are paying for those things with or without anything in return.

    Clothes.

Just go to shops which sell women’s and men’s clothes and see the difference in space given to each. The women’s section is usually At Least 3 times the size of the men’s section.

There are not 3 times as many women as men.

I guess generally men are happy with less. My girlfriend and I go places all the time. Cafes for lunch and coffee and such, places to eat, etc. When I was single, I rarely ate outdoors. I like doing these things with her, but it is way more expensive than single life where I’d occasionally grab a couple beers with friends.

Because of how spread attitude “her money are her money, his money are family budget” is

I spent a lot of money on things that I really don’t enjoy doing like shopping. Now, I spend a lot less because I go into a place like Ross and know exactly what I’m there for and I’m out of there in 10 minutes.

A big expenditure of mine that isn’t necessarily dependent on having a gf but it ended up costing more than I thought was travel. I wanted to do exciting things with her. When I date someone, I want to take them on adventures and do things we haven’t done. But that gets very expensive even if it is just few trips a year.

Because a lot of women look for things, signals and behaviors that may require more money spending than those men would spend if not trying to get into a relationship.

And since it seems that a noticable percentage of men still do spend money on their partner as well as a noticable percentage expects to have money spend on them, being single and therefore responsible for 100% of the bills would make it more expensive for women to be single.

Note that this is broadly speaking and only talking about averages of the entire demographic rather than individual cases.

Men (in general) live frugally. They don’t need much to be happy, TV, a games console, and a few beers with their buddies.

Their apartments are sparsely decorated, when a woman goes round they feel sad for the guy, but he is delighted.

female here, I didn’t notice this as i split everything with my partner.

I can afford my own things. I have always believed in spending as if i’m single. There was a period I was a sahm. Always hated having to take money from my ex, felt like a handout.

  11. Justthefacts6969 Avatar

    Because men pay for women

  12. Historical-Pen-7484 Avatar

No idea, but I feel like I’m always saving up more money when I’m single.

  13. Yakker65 Avatar

Because men pay for everything. When we don’t, then women have to take care of themselves, now it’s expensive.

  14. Live_Way_8740 Avatar

I disagree with the statement. And my experience is completely the opposite of that.

  15. Chrol18 Avatar

a lot of men spend less in general than women, also in most relationships the men is expected to pay for more things

  16. Several_Debt9287 Avatar

    Women consume more.

  17. Consistent-Shoe-9602 Avatar

Well, I’m not really sure the statement is true anyway. Maybe that’s why there is no good explanation.

Also, people are different. There are both big spenders and frugal people from all genders.

    I’ve never heard this.

  19. PredictablyIllogical Avatar

Men typically have to pay for dates so naturally it is cheaper to be single. Women will spend more of their money trying to get attention and thus it will be expensive for women.

Can you genuinely not fathom why this is the case lmao

Some of it might have to do with societal norms around appearance. Guys can get away with two pairs of jeans and maybe 10 shirts. We also don’t need cosmetics, expensive hair treatments or even basic skin care.

  22. Total-Arrival-9367 Avatar

I don’t need or want a lot of material stuff. Just things I need, and some wants. I’m a bit minimalist, but it works for me and my finances. I am able to find ways to build some savings etc.

Will I date again? Yes, maybe. But right now, I got some stuff I’m doing.

  23. Asa-Ryder Avatar

Men don’t wear fashion clothes, carry expensive bags, have an inch thick of expensive makeup, fake nails and lashes, etc. We also don’t get injections and lifts and all that other crap.

  24. Icy-Gene7565 Avatar

Men spend their money on women.
Women who dont have a man have to spend their own money.

    Is that what you mean?

  25. HeapsFine Avatar

As a woman, being in a relationship has been far more expensive. There’s a lot more money spent on treating that person and making meals for them that I otherwise wouldn’t cook, plus the shared expense of dates adds up.
