For me it’s just a habit. All the jobs i worked at required me to get up pretty early. So going to bed at 10pm was quite hard to get used to in the beginning. You know you need to sleep so you just lay there and look at the clock every 10min but in reality already an hour has passed so you kinda start panicking and counting forward how many hours of sleep you will actually get.. But after awhile your mind gets used to going to bed at that time so i always start to get sleepy around 10pm which makes it quite easy to fall asleep. As you said, as soon as i close my eyes. It doesn’t even matter if it’s a day off, i still start to get sleepy around that time.
Honestly, I’ve been sleep deprived for three weeks now. I stopped running because I feel like I just don’t have the capacity for it anymore. I’m not sure if it’s my hormones or just the nature of working the graveyard shift.
Follow all instructions, especially the ones about when to go outside and get natural light, when to get off your screen and turn down the inside lights.

Exercise, don’t drink coffee or any other stimulants, don’t drink alcohol, sleep less than you need.
Also, be young and healthy, that helps a lot.
