Why is President Milley’s approval rating so high in Argentina?

r/

He is known to have far-right leanings, but why does he still have so much support?

Because he’s doing great against terrible odds, despite what the media might tell you, the proof is in the pudding, he’s righthing every wrong people wanted fixed for 30 years and improvement can already be felt by the common people. He’s gonna clean sweep the next elections and the opposition is freaking out, so they are ramping the rhetoric. Milei does for real the things Trump lies about, swiftly and efficiently.

Well I assume it’s because they think he has the balls to do what has to be done. Argentina was in a thouroughly fucked position for a long time because of overspending and he explicitly ran on cutting the government to fix it. They support him based on his economic policy, not social issues.

Because they like him & voted for him

Because he basically killed the inflation problem which has been like a disease in our country, also because he represents a big break from almost 20 years of kirchnerism which is worse than the plague.

Inflation is down, poverty is down, narco crimes are down, credit is back again, taxes are down. Life’s good.

People don’t mind being ruled by a nutjob if they are prosperous. Economic prosperity is all that matters, the rest is secondary.

Who doesn’t love a populist? Heck, even more in Latin America… We love a populist that exploit our fears / hopes. The siren’s song… The region’s history is filled with tons of examples (Argentina alone is filled with examples: Peron, Kirchner, Menem)… Again, we love populists… also, we learn nothing with our previous errors / experiences…

Because the opposition is shit. And I don’t know if the approval rating is THAT high. I have my doubts.

I will no take seriously the comments here that are saying the inflation is killed. I don’t know if those people go to supermarkets or I’m being robbed every day. 2 or 3% monthly inflation is high.

Lower inflation & dollar stability= lower poverty, less regulations

Because he’s fixing a lot the issues caused by corrupt socialist governments that brought argentina to near economic collapse.

Because he lowered the rampant inflation and even tho he agrees with some “far right” stuff he still LIBERTARIAN. So the only individual freedom he is against is abortion under the say that children inside a womb have the right to live and it isnt even part of his main agenda.

But I guess you rather to starve people than having a “far right” Goverment even tho is not far right at all.

He managed to lower inflation and stabilize the exchange rate. Price stability and a stronger peso were one of the main demands from the Argentine society during 2023 when he won, so Milei’s approval rate remained high despite the crypto scandal and other economic issues the country is still facing.

Because he managed the inflation pretty quickly but his approval rating is beggining to go down because the economy is growing slowly as well some scandals like $Libra. Even worse inflation numbers stopped going down in january and have been going up slowly. March number is expected to be even worse. And that’s all while the peso is getting more and more expensive.

Because many voters are not old enough to remember 2001, and that Carlos Menem already tried the exact same policies which led to a short-term economic boom, then a massive crash.
