Everywhere I look, people seem to have a thing—something they love deeply, that gives them purpose. I don’t hate my life, but I don’t have that spark either. I try stuff, I enjoy things casually, but nothing sticks. It makes me feel like I’m missing something essential. Is this just how some people are?
Why should everyone have a passion?

It is true that there are people for whom their career(s) of choice, family, pets, and/or other simple pleasures are enough, but those people tend not to ask these types of questions… well, maybe if they are young. I cannot say for sure.
Do you feel that you are actually lacking, or could this be how you feel relative to other people? You do not need to be interesting or be interested in things others find interesting in order for your passion to be valid and worth pursuing.
On the other hand, not everyone can focus upon just one or two passions. Some people truly are jacks of many trades. While it is true that it is more difficult to master any one when there are many, that does not make it impossible, but you then need patience and perspective—to look at the bigger picture.
I do not know how old you are, but I guarantee you that you are not too old to have missed your opportunity for realising one of your passions (and there are definitely going to be at least two, trust me). I highly encourage you to keep trying new things and not to feel too discouraged when some of them, while enjoyable, do not pique your interest. There is a such thing as mild depression as well which can be just as damaging as the more severe deal because it often goes undetected as a result of being “mild”. That does not make it any less real if that is a potentiality for you. My father, for example, only got into fixing luxury watches at the age of 69 (last year) and has stuck to doing that since he retired (this year), and he loves it. I never so much as saw him wear a watch other than a basic silver one nor have I seen him express interest in much more than cars and his job, but hey! He is happy. I, on the other hand, only got into video editing at the age of 23 (years ago but still), and this was after a long series of trying and failing to find something to stick for myself. I started out as a pre-med student at 18, so you can imagine.
