WIBTW if I gave a kid (stranger) money?

r/

To start off. I did NOT do this. In case I would be the weirdo. But, I digress—

I don’t talk to my mom. On Mothers Day, I saw a girl and her mom at a budget store I shop at frequently and I (F22) struck a conversation with mom, friendly, talking about a product in front of us. As I am browsing, mom and daughter (probably under 10) are looking at things.

I gather from their interactions that she’s probably a single mom and money is tight. Mom wanted this item, daughter made a comment about how she only $3 and was sorry she didn’t have anything for Mother’s Day.

I had a $20 and was going back and forth on whether or not it’d be weird to give it to the kid. Ultimately, I decided against it (better safe than sorry). But I felt bad. Now, a couple weeks later, I still question it.

Did I make the right decision? Would I have been a weirdo?

the fact that you cared already makes you not weird. you’re just empathetic af. And no one remembers weird people in stores but they remember kindness forever 🫶 this would’ve been a “faith in humanity restored” moment and that little girl would never forget it And I think if you did it super gently, like “hey I had a good day and wanna pass it on,” it’d be sweet not creepy

That would’ve been so sweet of u!!! Honestly if u caught the child alone in an aisle and explained what it was for but even after typing that out idk in what way this sweet gesture could’ve been seen as anything other than creepy so maybe it’s best it never happened!😭

I might be a weirdo, but I’ve given a little boy money in a restaurant. My best friend and I were grabbing a quick lunch at chic fil a and there was a group of kids in I’m assuming for a field trip. There was a little boy sitting at a table with 3 other kids eating ice cream and he didn’t have one because he didn’t have the money for it. We absolutely scrounged up the $3 in cash for him to have one too.
