I don’t personally think they will in a meaningful way. Being able to have that space on the device be a screen when not typing is too useful I think.

Plus personally I think at some point we won’t have devices like we have now. I really think contacts or glasses will end up overlaying all the device functions in our vision and we’ll have a little box in our pocket(and at some point the glasses could probably do it).

We have to look at trends of old tech coming back. For the past twenty years it is relatively cheaper to replace screen instead of keyboard. We want slim and light weight tech so touchscreen will still be dominant. Physical keyboard also means lesser screen size or complicated gears so it is hard to imagine it’s comeback.

Add to folding phones and flexible screen, reverting to the old ways is just not profitable and physical external keyboard are far better than built in keyboard

It’s going to depend on what Gen Alpha thinks is cool and personally I don’t see them throwing away their iPhones and opting to use vintage Sidekicks instead.

It depends on what celebrity has one first 🤔

I think there will be a nostalgic era in 5-10 years time. Just like clothes. Probably an Android something with come out with some blackberry vibes and if it’s priced right I know people would buy it.

I think giant advancements in phones have been stale the past 5 ish plus years so the next big thing is something not currently on the market. A new way to communicate either through typing or heck something in your brain/ear or anus. Or some new tech heavy feature that’s hardware specific.

If not either of those, phones will be rectangles and touchscreens with annual incremental improvements of camera, battery and software and AI being rammed down our necks.

I’d buy a nostalgia based android blackberry thing.

The biggest problem is that we use keyboards differently no you shift characters on keys more often and people use things like emojis I typed this all on my morse code keyboard

I don’t know about others, but I’ll not think twice before grabbing one if a new BlackBerry hits the market!

    Remember BlackBerry Key2? Gimme it!

I reckon we’re only 10 – 20 yrs from mass market neural interfacing, not necessarily implant based

It hasn’t gone away. It’s just on a screen now.

I think there’ll always be a niche group that loves physical keypads, but realistically, the mainstream isn’t going back. Touchscreens just offer way more flexibility for modern apps and features. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone drops a nostalgia-inspired phone for the vibes.

There are a couple still available but the specs are low-end. They are very affordable though!

I’d like the horizontal sliding keyboard to come back.

Probably not, but maybe.. I was watching a thing the other day about all the phone from when I was like 12-17. There were so many styles, unique applications, and colors. I’ve had a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone that was an mp3 player, an LG vu that was a lil TV with an antenna and internet access. It’s great that all those unique applications are all rolled into one now, but I miss when you tried to say a bit about yourself with your phone style. The only thing I don’t miss is that aaaallll those phones had different proprietary chargers that were near impossible to replace.

Maybe as folding screens and such get better, we’ll start seeing a wider variety of styles again someday

I miss blackberry buttons. I used to be able to type so fast. I am constantly messing up on touch screen.

I want slide phones with full keypad that kicks out.

I don’t think so. When smartphones first came out I bought a smartphone that had a physical keyboard, and a touchscreen. I can’t remember what brand or model it has been so long ago, but it was awesome. It wasn’t a blackberry but looked like one with a longer and wider screen.

No we are entering the era of speech to text. The next big keyboard will be a mic
