Will the next Democrat President be able to undo the damage of Trump to the federal government?

r/

Assuming we’re allowed to vote in 2028 and assuming a Democrat President wins, how much of the damage are they going to be able to undo to the federal government?

First, would the people who have been fired even want to come back? We will have proved that working for the federal government is not a stable job anymore and they will have moved on.

Second, Trump will have replaced everyone he possibly can with loyalists who will try to obstruct the new President anyway they can making the only possible choice is to fire them. Then Republicans will turn around saying Democrats do the same thing.

The problem is going to be how quickly and easily the next Democrat President can implement some kind of project 2029 agenda and come in with their own game plan on how to fix whatever is left of this new government.

I can see a scenario where Republicans cede the 2028 election to Democrats because they don’t want to be holding the bag in 2028 while the country is falling part, only to turn around and once again say Democrats can’t fix anything and easily win in 2032.

NO. The level of damage already inflicted will last decades, if not generations.

The next Democrat will have to focus their political capital on fixing democracy itself, which in hindsight is what Biden should have done. Otherwise anything they do will be undone by the next clown surely to come in the next change election.

This cycle of fixing things that republicans destroy has got to stop, it has been going on for too many cycles already.

    Almost certainly not.

Think about how long it takes to demolish a building. Now ask yourself if that same building can be built in that same time. Destroying something is always orders of magnitude easier than creating something.

Even if they do manage to salvage a working federal government from the rubble, both the rest of the world and anyone who might staff that government will know that everything might just be torn back down in another four years.

I don’t see how we can possibly recover from this. Especially when the Republicans will be ready and able to just immediately destroy anything a Democrat creates during their time in office. It’s crabs in a bucket on a national scale.

Even if they could, they won’t. Democrats don’t do this. Democrats have appeased the right-wing in this country for decades, and they won’t even stop right now under this dire situation. I don’t see why any of us are rallying behind Democrats at this point. This is an unbelievable circumstance that none of us is taking seriously enough.

I doubt it could be undone in a single term, let alone two. Though it probably depends on how ambitious the next dem president is, it will still likely take a decade to bounce back from (at the bare minimum), especially if things keep getting worse.

It is going to require a great deal of economic recovery that will take time, but also considerable appeasement to foreign allies, to repair relationships and to restore US hegemony, which will likely never return to how it was between 1991-2024 when America was defacto world police and undisputed number one power.

It’s kind of why I think the next Dem president needs to be a real brutal hardass who is willing to fight fire with fire, to make sure Republicans will be effectively locked out of power for 10-30 years to ensure the disastrous actions of the Trump administration can not only be undone, but prevented from ever happening again.

If the next Dem president takes the Joe Biden route of insisting on civility and unity that amounts to letting Republicans off the hook, They’ll inevitably regain power again in 4-12 years and just demolish everything Dems built within a week and send the country straight back down the path to neoreactionary techno-feudal shithole.
