This is hard to answer without knowing what you like to read, but my own faves:

Infinite Jest — read last year, worth the hype

I Have Some Questions For You and The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

    Self Care by Leigh Stein

    Victim by Andrew Boryga

if you like romance, anything by Emily Henry

if you like horror, anything by Grady Hendrix, but especially The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Hunting Vampires

I’m currently reading 1984 by George Orwell. Every year it becomes less and less dystopian.

I’ll caveat that some of my favorite genres are: historical fiction, nonfiction and memoir, and contemporary fiction and I don’t read romantasy, romance, etc.

Some of my favorites from the past year:

    • Playground by Richard Powers
    • Boat Baby: A Memoir by Vicky Nguyen
    • A Brief History of Intelligence by Max Solomon Bennett
    • How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair
    • The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
    • Maame by Jessica George
    • A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella
    • As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh

trails rpg series is basically nearly a visual novel series……..

there’s so much dialogue it’s more than books AND they put short stories/history about the gameworld within the game too

I read the ACOTAR series not that long ago and now I’m reading the Let Them theory by Mel Robbins

Fair warning my favorite genre is DEPRESSING

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai: had a severe book hangover (couldn’t read anything else for about a week), knew I loved it in like the first three pages that I snuck a look at as I was about to go to bed. Sometimes I get the audiobook from the library just to bask in the writing

Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire: if you wanna level up your fantasy game and/or need a good deep dive. These books are so rich and detailed, and really get into real-world themes like, for example, living with a disability, in a way that was really fascinating to me.

Beartown series by Fredrik Backman: just. Ugh. I really fell in love with these characters. It’s a hockey series and I hate sports but I am their #1 fan. I actually preferred them on audiobook (the writing style is kind of rambly so it works well for listening imo).

The All Night Sun by Diane Zinna: another one with just absolutely gorgeous writing, so descriptive, so intoxicating, I started rereading but got distracted but I really need to bc I think about this book so often!!

Shout out to my girl Marisa de Los Santos for more BEAUTIFUL writing, I can’t pick just one. All her books are 5* for me. She has a PhD in poetry (but writes fiction) and it SHOWS.

Dark humor: The Swallows by Lisa Lutz, The Flood Girls by Richard Fifield

Actually light books: Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston; Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

ā€œOlderā€ books/you may remember these but if you haven’t read them they’re excellent: The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I just finished “Nettle & Bone” – it was amazing! Fantasy/dark fairytale, and the female protagonist was 30 (refreshing after so many 19yo female protagonists!)

I just read the vegetarian by Han Kang, and oh what a book! I normally love to read fiction which is inspired by reality. This one was a such a good read after A fine balance by Rohington Mistry.

So yea! Also picked Seduction but cannot get through with that since self help is not my cup of tea.

Just finished “We used to live here” by Marcus Kliewer. I really enjoyed it. It’s quite a trippy horror novel. I definitely recommend it if you’re into horrors and thrillers.
I’ve just started “Someone in the attic” by Andrea Mara and I’m enjoying it so far. It’s a thriller I think.

I use to read a lot of fiction, some of my favourites were

    • His Dark Materials series
    • Lord of the Rings series
    • The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series
    • And some short stories from Julio CortĆ”zar (I’ve read all his work in Spanish, wouldn’t know if the English translations do justice to his amazing writing tho)

    Non fiction

    • Women Who Run With Wolves (one of my favourite books)
    • First, We Make The Beast Beautiful (about anxiety)

And a friend recommended two books, Women Living Deliciously & Invisible Women, which I ordered last night (:
