I have/had two close friends with kids. One friendship didn’t change. Saw him a bit less for a while, understandably, but the essence of the friendship was the same. I actually lived with them for a while after he separated from the mum.
The other friend I had seemed to think I hated kids and would only arrange to meet up when she had childcare, despite trying to reassure her that I don’t hate kids and especially not her kids. It didn’t end the friendship but we did grow apart a bit as a result. The friendship ended for other reasons!
Depends on the person, some people only want to talk about kid related stuff which is boring to me, some only want to spend time with other mums, some don’t change too much and fit their kids into their existing life and still have other things to talk about.

Some friendships broke after many years because they only had one topic left to talk about… so boring.
