I moved from a conservative intermountain city to a big blue west coast city in my early 40s. In the process I got a boyfriend and a better career. Made a bunch of friends, though tbh I miss my old friends too. But overall it was a great move.
I moved from UK to Mexico.
It was a huge change in dating culture. Guys in UK hardly ever approach (happened once in my adult life). In Mexico I get approached every week. In UK on dates, paying is usually 50/50 or taking turns. In Mexico the man is expected to pay (I have to insist, I’m not comfortable with this custom). Things move a lot faster in Mexico, I have been introduced to parents and been told ‘te quiero’ on the 3rd date (different guys), at home this would only be when exclusive and I would be very surprised if it happened before 3/4 months of dating.
Social environment is also different, in Mexico people are much more likely to meet up during the week after work whereas in UK it tends to be reserved for Friday/Saturday nights. Not as much advance planning is required. Overall I prefer Mexican culture, British seem very cold in comparison.
