My husband has a job he travels for (hourly paid, not salary). He is paid for his trips to the work lcoation of that day minus one hour which they consider his standard commute. They pay for hotels during the week, during which time they don’t offer travel pay even if you choose to go home.
They have started, without notice, switching the schedule from Monday-Friday with weekends off to random days off through the week, with the entire week booked at the hotel, and are now expecting employees to travel from hotel to hotel rather than ver going home. So far they have him scheduled to do this for 3 weeks straight (of not going home, not being paid for travel from home). As they haven’t spoken to him about it, and just sent him the schedule, we don’t know if this is what they are planning to do permanently.
Is this in any way legal for them to do? Him not coming home on his days off was not part of his contract, and he is also a part time employee with no benefits. The maximum he would be paid on those days would be a $30 per diem paid for meals. They’ve also made it clear that this job is not going to be around for longer than another year, so I feel they are hoping people will voluntarily quit. Does he just have to live in hotels until he finds another job? Is there any recourse against what they’re doing?

It’s unlikely a part time employee with no benefits have a contract. Most likely he signed an offer letter that outlined some basics of the position.
Texas would not require him to be paid traveling to and from a remote place when he wants to.
