Working from the office is actually better than working from home

I know remote work is all the rage and everyone loves the flexibility, but honestly, I think working in an office has major advantages that people overlook.

First of all, the separation between work and home life is way healthier mentally. I don’t want my living room to also be my workspace. It’s hard to fully disconnect when your job is always a few feet away.

Second, collaboration is just easier in person. Zoom fatigue is real. Nothing beats walking over to someone’s desk and hashing something out in 5 minutes instead of scheduling a half-hour call that could have been an email.

Yes, each their own ofc, but I wouldn’t want to work from home with my job, I like the separation from home and work, and I also often discuss how to do things in the project i’m working on, and doing that online would just be a bit frustrating for me.

Also I like my coworkers so I also socialize with them, so being at home with make that not really a thing.

Yeah, I guess for you that makes sense. But if it’s financially possible, having a separate room just for work changes everything. I’d personally always pick working remote over being stuck in an office every day:)

I’ve been working from home for over 10 years and never met any of my coworkers in person. Luckily I have an office at my house. When the day ends I completely separate from work. In my job I don’t ever communicate with my team so no zoom calls or video meetings. I come in whenever I want, do my work and call it a day.

That’s until you’re paying $50 per trip because you can’t drive because you don’t and can not have a driver’s license.

I agree. Hate working from home and as a manager, it’s frustrating never having all staff in the office at the same time. Hybrid meetings are so frustrating however Pandora’s box has been opened and I’m not sure it can be easily closed without creating a lot of hard feelings.

its a common enough attitude. i would prefer to work in an office because it would get me out of the house. its far better mentally.

Depending on where you live, driving in traffic to and from work is the WORST and is so stressful. I’ve been working from home now and have a nice office at home. Got to decorate it however I wanted. No one there to look over your shoulder. So much more independence.
So no, my living room is not my office. You can still separate the two.

Also, the amount I’ve saved on tolls, gas, and most importantly, TIME is definitely worth working from home.

Oh fuck no. Having the senior guy come to your desk and walk you through everything seems great to you (but you probably could just look up most of the stuff on your own), but that dude is not enjoying your endless questions and you trying to keep them from leaving until they fully solve your problem for you, without them even having access to their reference notes or a separate computer to look up information in parallel.

You expecting them to just know everything and magic a solution for your problem is such entitlement and nuts.

Agreed. Mainly because of the separation you mentioned. Very easy to slide into working all day long when working from home.

“I sent you the email, did you not read it? ”
    “It’s 10pm on Friday. I’ll check it Monday. “

Anyone who’s been in a useless meeting ever in their lives would agree. So many times, a meeting happens and so many times, I’d much rather talk to the person for 10 minutes instead of wasting the hour.

Well it’s unpopular I’ll give you that.

I have a hybrid work setting and I despise commuting on those days where all there is is Teams meetings

I prefer working from home, but there are downsides for me personally, and I can completely understand why many would prefer working from the office.

If I could walk to work in 10 minutes, I think I’d lean towards office working, but working from home currently saves me c. £5k per year and 10 hours per week.
