It depends if you’re filling it up or emptying it.

If you’re filling the bin up, it’s half full.

If you’re emptying it, it’s half empty.

The answer is descriptive based on the action, not the personality of the observer.

They wouldn’t care. Because they wouldn’t have to empty it.

Depends on what the end goal is.

Depends on whether they put trash in

Half empty. I don’t think that having more trash is a positive thing, it could be under some rare cirumstances, but generally speaking people prefer to have less trash.

well as others have mentioned there is no specific answer to your question based on the end goal. But speaking as a realist (self diagnosed), i think the trash can is a creation of life. it’s made up of star dust, the same as you and me. therefore it’s an eternal existence of beauty and magic and is a positive living energy. A lot of people i know think i am an optimist but honestly i believe it’s because the average human is innately negative. Were designed to be that way because were designed to survive. This means doubting things and not taking risks. The trash can is no different relative to whoever is looking at it. It’s a trash can

Half empty, an optimist will always go with the “more ideal” choice – wording doesn’t matter
